PICKING A GYM
I moved across the state not too long ago. I do this move every year and no matter what I need a few things to stay the same. That includes, my food and the gym.. the rest can be tweaked now and then.
When looking for a gym, remember what you are comfortable with. I love the small town feel, I love knowing I’ll see the same people every day. Big crowds can startle me at times so I avoid it at all costs. The looky-loos at bigger gyms can be intimidating! I don’t like being watched when I workout by frat-stars or meat head guys. (unless they are cute with big trucks...then maybe..! )
Also think about how much you are going to travel. I am making the effort to go back home more often so to stay consistent I need a gym to be wherever I go!
Costs: that money problem... being a college kid, I only work a few months out of the year. Think about your budget and what amenities are worth spending money on. I have no desire to pay for parking or for services I don’t use enough to get the value from.
Taking all of this into consideration, I did my research and I had a few options, my school gym, or Anytime Fitness. I picked Anytime!!! I love being in the smaller more community style gym. Its member access is 24/7 and located darn near everywhere I ever plan on traveling. And its within a few miles of my home and my school-home. Solid win. I also get to meet with the staff once a month for trainer tips. Tanning is offered, if you opt-in (service I don’t use so I don’t pay for) and parking is free. The people there are mostly all 5-50 years older than me (I always feel young) but every once in a while there are a few younger guys, but they are polite. They have gym manors! Anytime Fitness is my new home away from home :) I go to the REC, or my school gym now and then with my roomies but it reminds me every time why I picked Anytime. The looky-loos are in mass population and I have to wait for machines in the heavy weight section, which is full of meat head guys. I mean there are some gems, but still.. a lot to dig through to find the shiny. Anytime has become my addiction. Find yours. Happy Gym Hunting!
