I just have to send this message to you. Your writing is an absolute masterpiece. I just finished reading your Coriolanus story, I’m in absolute shock and it will probably haunt me for the next couple of weeks. The story was so beautiful and tragic. I know it seems stupid but I genuinely need you to hear this. Words can’t describe how well written and amazing that story was. Love your work, more tears were shed over this story than any other story I’ve read. (I genuinely can’t move forward) 💕💕
omg thank you so much! (sorry i'm only just getting to this lol). i'm glad you liked it, it was a project for me that i was really passionate about. it's the first time in a long time that i've had a piece that felt like a book, and i'm glad that it turned out as good as it did.
i really wanted to play with the effects of their relationship, the way coryo haunts her in the way that lucy gray haunts him, and it gave me a chance to incorporate the districts and the way that they respond to her after every that has happened and vice versa. she's so stuck between both worlds that she truly just doesn't have a place in either. she had a home in the districts that was lost, and it's a place she has a kinship with that has been eroded in certain ways by her time in the capitol, which has changed her view by embedding a need for capitol-specific elements that makes it just uncomfortable enough to make her former home seem so foreign to her.
it also gave me a huge chance to write different relationships. coryo's obsession and possession over her transforming into something that is probably just a need to project onto her what he couldn't project onto lucy gray after she left him in the state he was in, a way to manifest his obsession in a way that's cruel to satiate that urge for revenge. the love the reader has for coryo that disgusts her but makes it impossible not to need him, especially with the way he quite literally conditioned her to need him (like a drug). the love she found in vincent that is genuinely pure that she will never be able to fully feel or return because of her addiction to the toxicity she has with coryo, and the way he knows this in some capacity but chooses to love and accept her anyway. her relationship with volivia that was based on a one-sided hate and disgust that, with a little understanding and some middle ground, was able to turn into something almost sisterly. there will always be that underlying urge to hold a grudge, but there's enough trust to push that to the side and choose to work together to protect the ones she loves.
the way gylan immediately takes to her like a sister, where she eventually gets so attached that she needs to protect him like a son, especially to make up for the way she failed those children she had to go through the games with. she was always maternal in some ways, protective and yearning for someone to take care of (which is another reason she attached so much to coryo, as he became a responsibility to her). and then the way she is with her actual child, wanting nothing more than to keep him safe without being able to trust her to be the one, as she feels she's just too corrupted for her to even be able to trust herself with him. that the presence of her in his life alone would fail him, that choice that she'd rather leave her child in the hands of the districts where he could possibly be in the danger they all suffer there than to let him stay somewhere where he would always be safe but would never be human in the way he deserves.
oops i rambled. i just really enjoyed writing these characters and the story they're in, and then finding ways to orchestrate all that foreshadowing UGH
anyway thank you so much for your ask, it really means a lot! 💕
