The most minimalist of electronic music, Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records’ style nestles its listener in a world of bleak, downtempo and bass-heavy rhythms. Strangely compelling, Jan Jelinek makes use of spatiality to make every beat seem a mile from the next; while the nature of the beats themselves feel like drop… only to pick themselves up at the very last moment. Thoroughly hypnotic, this is music against the groove of melody or the tastes of popular sensibility. It embodies the excitement surrounding the potential of electronic music in 2001, feeling like a calculated navigation of pulses and graphs with a dichotomy of the clean and industrial. Very little of Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records ventures above a bass note, and yet it still feels like thoroughly active music. Jelinek’s attention to the most minimal details entails that not only does this record keep moving, but that it breathes – in a kind of digitally grotesque way.
