He had the scarlet knife (his favourite) in his hand and poised by her neck when he hesitated — a fatal thing in his line of work, demons and monsters won’t give you a moment to think, a single hesitation and you’re dead (shut up, Bruce, shut up), but what else could he do?

She was bound by iron chains to the corner, eyes bright, defiant, trembling, fingers flexing as if attempting to cast spells no longer available to her; a witch (a killer), defenseless, terrified.

{{Red X entertained the rapport he has with Jinx originally because, not only was she fairly interesting, she was a good partner in crime. When their occasional team-ups happened (I can’t remember if that was a thing we agreed on or just one of my favourite Red X headcanons but yeah), they made a good team, so Red X didn’t see a reason to make her his enemy.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped him from antagonising her a little bit, mainly because it’s funny when she’s annoyed and fun when she pokes back.

— as for their current friendship-and-maybe-a-bit-more, well, Red X might (rather insensitively) call it a lapse in judgement. He’d become careless, letting her slip past his defenses, and, well, fuck, suddenly he cares about her and doesn’t want to hurt her feelings. He still enjoys antagonising her a bit, but he entertains her company maybe a bit more than he thinks he should because he, to put it simply, likes her personality and how much fun she can be.}}
