Disclaimer: I haven't written from Lorcan's pov before, so please forgive me if this interpretation of his character is way off.
Ever since Lorcan Lochan had lost Hellas as his guide, he counted his lucky stars, instead.
His wife, Elide, who could talk her way out of—or into—anything to which she put her mind, was the light who steered him through his darkest days; his son, who was small for his age, or appeared that way, at least—maybe Lorcan should acknowledge that he doesn't have a single clue about the average growth rate of a quarter Fae, part witch human—but managed to get into more scraps than he did classrooms kept him young, despite the centuries he could claim; and last, but certainly not least, his daughter, who had her mother's quiet grace and charm, and her father's ability with knives, had kept him on his toes more than anyone else throughout his long life.
They were his new guiding light, his family, and, although he knew he had found his people, he never would have predicted he'd ever be lucky enough to actually belong somewhere, to be wanted for himself, not simply for what he could do. The havoc he could wreak with his powers. He was still learning each day to accept as fact what Elide told him every night.
It was enough that he could craft a wooden play sword, or gently plaster a cut... perhaps in that order. It was enough that he could turn his shadows, magic that had wrought destruction and death across battlefields and continents—not always for good—into fun play-acts against the wall for his little children. It was enough that he could give a massage, or advice born from years of hardship and war and life with his old Cadre. It was enough that he was here. Home.
thinking of having to sneak dbf!Lorcan out of your room because he came to visit just because he missed you 🥺 and you kind of expect it to be a situation where he just wants sex but even after he makes you see stars, he stays and talks with you. and you don’t realize that you’re both cherishing any time you have with one another. and eventually you both fall asleep together. and it’s only when he gets woken up hearing two male voices downstairs that he’s like “oh shit” and wakes you up and you’ve never seen him more panicked
Imagine having to try and calm him down. This great bulk of a man silently panicking at the risk of being caught. He doesn’t want you to get in trouble and if he’s being honest, Lorcan really wasn’t in the mood for a broken nose this morning. It’s not that he doesn’t want your father or brother to find out, this just isn’t the way he’d planned you both to break the news.
You manage to get Lorcan to stop freaking out. Having to stand on the bed to reach his height so you can wrap your arms around him. You cradle his head against your chest, assuring him over and over that it’s fine. He slumps, arms slinging around your waist as he huffs, “You’re going to make me jump out of the window, aren’t you?” Unable to stop the shit-eating grin taking over your lips, you nod against the top of his head. He groans quietly, lifting his head, “The things I do for you,” he says before kissing you.
Feeling yourself getting lost in the kiss, you’re forced to break it apart. Lorcan’s reluctant to leave you- that fact alone puts a smile on your face. Even as you urge him towards your bedroom window, hopping down off the bed to follow him. Lorcan slides the window open and peers out, calculating how high the fall will be. You cringe as you look down, feeling bad for making him do this. You take his large hand in your smaller one, turning him back towards you. Your neck strains as you look up at the towering male. Placing your free hand lightly against his stomach, you slowly drag your fingers down, teasing him with a promise for what’s to come, “I’ll make it up to you…” Lorcan growls under his breath, giving your hand a squeeze as he dips down to press his lips to yours one last time. “I’m counting on it,” He sighs against your lips before turning to the open window and beginning the great escape from your bedroom. Lorcan’s already fallen hard for you…a drop like this can’t hurt.
ok kind of thinking about gavriel’s daughter totally used to have a crush on dorian and dorian would flirt with you just a little because why not and it got under aedion’s skin (it also getting under your dad’s skin was really just collateral) and when king dorian comes on a visit, you’re still a little blushing and stuttering mess around him, even though all feelings are gone and you really only want one man (who is unfortunately your dbsf! lorcan) and the whole night lorcan is unbelievably jealous and in a pissy mood. it takes everything in him to not rip the king’s head off when he takes your hand and kisses the back of it (and lorcan knows aedion would be right there with him, not that he’d need the help)
and the ever observant dorian would probably notice the longing looks whenever you glance at your dad’s best friend and he notices the way they’re returned too. so later that night, dorian finds you outside alone and slides up next to you. he does his best to mask his surprise when a little tendril of death brushes against his power, a warning, no doubt. but the air does turn a bit cooler around you thanks to dorian’s power answering in response. you turn to look at him and the king has a smirk on his face. “i just came out here to tell you, you should be careful” and you really turn to look at him this time, wondering what the hell he’s talking about. you ask him as such and he wiggles his eyebrows at you, “based on your old crush on me i knew you were into older men, i just didn’t think that would extend to males your dad’s age, or his best friend for that matter”
your eyes would go wide with shock, unsure how he figured it out in his short time around you. dorian catches the look on your face and quickly turns serious. “it’s none of my business, if there is or isn’t anything between you two. but if i noticed, there’s a chance someone who lives here will too. and for your poor dad’s sake, i’m just telling you to be careful. as for your brother, man i wish i could be here when he finds out” you’d laugh a little but shove the king with your shoulder. and lorcan who’s silently watching you two (which dorian knows but you don’t) is trying not to blow a fuse at the contact. but the king is smart and instead turns, grabbing your hand and lifting it to his lips, placing one more kiss there before turning to head back inside. not before one more warning though, “oh and calm down your lover who’s on his way over here right now” and with a wink, dorian would be back inside, leaving you to deal with a broody lorcan who just wants your attention now that all prying eyes have gone to bed.
wait i love this
Just imagine once Dorian has gone back inside, Lorcan finally comes out of hiding. He comes up behind you, arms wrapping around your middle. “Would you stop trying to scare off Dorian, he’s just being friendly,” You scold the male, a smile on your lips as you lean back into him, having missed the comfort he gives you. Lorcan’s response is grunt into the crook of your neck. “He knows.” That makes Lorcan tense, pausing his nuzzling. “He’s not going to say anything but he thinks we should be careful. Dorian caught on, the others could too,” You’ve grown quiet, “We have to be more discreet or we…”
“Tell them,” Lorcan finishes. He sighs yet his arms tighten around you, “It’s going to happen eventually.” That’s not what you were expecting. Turning in his hold, you look up at him, a gleam of hope in your eyes. “You really think so?” You’d fallen for Lorcan a while ago, yet you never would have believed he would feel the same about you. His large palm slides up to cup your face, thumb stroking your cheek, “I don’t want to be with anyone other than you, sweetheart. And I’m willing to take a bruising from your father if it means we don’t have to hide. It’s up to you. We’ll be careful for as long you want but some day. Some day we’ll tell them, okay?” You nod, finding yourself unable to speak. Lorcan smiles, leaning down to press his lips to yours….
