Introduction of insanity.
From the shadows behind the gilded throne, there first came about a small girl, hesitantly, no more out of her preteen years than approaching the banks of adolescence. Her face was tan but ashen, almost a sickly shade, and contoured about such a sad face were grisly tresses of such an odd grayish colour that they glimmered several shades before the weak moonlight. Her eyes were narrow and flat, though, queerly, they were tinted of different colors altogether, slanted downwards in an impish manner; contained before them was a sense of contempt, of juicy scorn and cowardly pride. She wore a dress so thin and slight it barely managed to obscure her budding privacy, and Theo cut his eyes away ashamedly as to spare just a tad. Her hand was still partially masked in darkness, though when she gave a slight pull, a boy fell into view.
He was nearly the same age as the girl before him, but carried with him an air of haughty disdain and cold disparaging that Theo was shocked that such hate could be contained in such a slight body. Dirty blond hair, and dirty it was, too, as it was covered in muck, fell over frosty eyes that surveyed him in predatory, hawk-like fashion. He continued to hold the girl’s hand with one, leaving the other pale, bony hand to obscure the worst of the cold smirk that played across his saintly features, but Theo had no doubt that the child had been laughing at him scornfully before his exposure into the light. The boy tipped his head at him then, reminding him forcibly of Sir Huntsman’s animalistic movement, as he flickered raggedly sharp fingernails in his general direction. His grin widened, and the girl beside him giggled all but the sound of rough hiccups.
A glimmer of movement in Theo’s peripheral caught his attention – he turned quickly to witness a girl divulge herself from the shadows, but no, she could not be a girl anymore. As her features were gently sculpted into being by the blue moonlight, Theo found himself facing a woman that could have been the age of his own classmates. Dark eyes framed by mousy brown hair surveyed him dispassionately, though not unkindly, that sharp nose turned slightly upwards as to dissuade Theo’s commoner body into coming any closer. The woman would have been quite beautiful if it were not for the ugly snarl twisting her pink-tainted lips and the shadows of a scar, like a shameful tattoo, that snaked upon the side of her bosom and disappeared around her throat to the back of her neck. She was quite tall – if they were to stand back-to-back, they would be within inches of each others’ height.
And again – movement diverged Theo’s focus until he found the boy he had met in the corridor earlier, Sir Wolf, standing in a clear distance from the others. About these people, Sir Wolf kept those blank lavender eyes low, almost unwilling to glance up and meet Theo’s. Or was he trying to avoid eye contact with the three strangers? Doubtful, Theo glanced away to a meek snuffling in the corner that sounded quite like the quiet lament of a mouse.
To his surprise, he found a girl, modest and demure, creep forth from the shadows, all the while desperately clutching to her chest like a lifeline a long, rickety stick that Theo eventually made out to be a makeshift broom. Strawberry curls straggled across a wide brow, shiny even in the dim light with perspiration, and fell lightly upon slender shoulders. Doe-like, almond eyes affixed themselves on a spot before his feet, and he glanced downwards, wondering if he had tracked in mud or dirt; but when he glanced up once more, he found the girl quickly looking away, having being caught staring at him.
But before Theo could survey her more closely, the woman spoke suddenly in highly scandalised, deeply affronted tones: “My heavens, Peasant Rose, what in the Princess’s name do you mean by stepping out of turn? What are you doing before our guest?”
The light-haired girl suddenly disappeared into the shadows, and from her, Theo could detect a wavering squeak. “N-no, I certainly do not mean…I apologise, your lowly servant apologises s-sincerely – ”
“Stupid girl, retreat into the shadows.” This time it was the blond-haired boy, who shifted his scornful gaze into a look of utmost hatred towards the trembling darkness. He gave a short bark of mirthless laughter, interrupting the woman before she could begin to speak, as he turned away carelessly. “You will stay there until you are called upon for your services. How terribly insolent are you, silly Peasant, to show your unworthy self before such a charming visitor, the unfortunate traveler?” With a short rustle, Peasant Rose disappeared. At his side, the girl laughed to the boy’s gratification and Theo’s great displeasure.
Appalled, Theo interjected, “With all due respect, she wasn’t doing anything – ”
“And you.” The three remaining turned their attentions back towards him, and the combined force of their icy hatred stunned him into silence. The blond-haired boy leaned forward, scrutinising him with harsh eyes whilst gripping the girl’s hands tightly. A thin purple tongue darted from his mouth, playing over yellowing ivories and moistening his lips. “You, my dear, are within enemy lines. You reside upon the noble planes of our kingdom, and, unless I am mistaken, and I am never, the beast informs us that you are in dire need of our assistance.”
“I – I don’t,” stammered Theo, but trailed into silence as the boy severed his hold upon the multi-tinted girl, the latter sourly backing away, to extend his hands up to touch Theo’s face.
Surprised, Theo tried to move out of the way, but the boy seized the front of his shirt and pulled him downwards until they were at eye level, those arctic eyes lazily playing over his face in an almost vulgar manner. “So I would recommend, O lonely traveler, from the kindness of my heart, for yourself to hold your damn tongue while you in our midst,” said the boy smoothly, leveling back Theo’s bangs in a nearly sultry manner, to which Theo tried to break away, finding himself unable to move under the boy’s dangerous eyes. The boy laughed distantly. “You will learn many things here, stupid boy. Keeping your mouth shut is one of them.”
Delectable.
Oh ~ ? Now, truly, what is this ? What is such an emotion in my heart that spreads like a candle on its side ?
How I adore it so ! I wish I could have such an emotion so very often. You know, with this kind of emotion, I can do a-ny-thing I want to without worrying about the consequences ~ ! Tahaa, I really am not quite sure what it is though. But I love it.
Anger ! Yes, perhaps that is what it is. But "anger" sounds so...angry ! Almost criminal-like. I am not a criminal, you see ! I have done nothing within my limits that may constitute me as a criminal. What do you think ? I am very sure that you will agree with me ! Ha ha !
Ah, what jubilation I feel with the anger consuming my heart. The world is so stupid not to embrace such an emotion as it is. Think of all the potentially wonderful things we can do as opposed to remaining cooped up in an office and counting one's money ! With this anger, perhaps one would actually be motivated to try something, hm ? Why, I almost feel like I could kill.
Oh ! But I will not do something so rash right now ! The wonderful emotion of anger is wearing off. I'm afraid I am not in my best state of mind ! Teehee !
I will be fine, though. One day, I shall re-acquire this wonderful emotion of anger and recapture my throne. The dawn of a new era draws close. Heehee, I can taste my victory now ~ .
I will win.
Oh, is this what we are doing now ?
No ! No ! I say. Tahaa, stupid princess thinks she can tell us what to do. Haha !
Maybe ! Do you think I am just a foolish child, stupid Princess ? There is no foolish people here, I can assure you that, but your poor pathetic self.
We will usurp you, silver-haired demoness. We will take what is rightfully ours.
I really do not love you any more !
