I don't think I ever talked about my Digimon Rewrite!
I see people do digimon OC stories and stuff, but I don't see a lot of rewrites for digimon, especially not the big four (Adventure, 02, Tamers, Frontier)
However I've finally gotten around to watching Digimon in sub and I'm planning on working at it again! I haven't touched the story in a while, but the basic premise is to do what I think every english dub watcher thought was already canon as a kid--connect the seasons. Adventure 01 and 02, yeah easy, but I mean Tamers and Data Squad as well.
Oh yeah sidenote for anyone who cares: the rewrite (and like, all my talks abt digimon) are gonna feature proper sub names for the humans, but dub names for digimon and other terms like digidestined and digivice and the digimon's attacks/digivolutions (im lowkey kinda surprised that the sub didn't shove digi in front of anything the way dub does. like I know dub gets ridiculous abt it but c'mon? Chosen Children? You cannot look me in the eyes and tell me Digidestined doesn't sound more unique, and by extension more awesome)
the main idea is that the digidestined are each a generation after the last, and thus things like crests, goggles, and sometimes digivices get passed down. the way kids are chosen is connected, how they were chosen is connected, and the lore is more consistent across the digital world. it's also a play on advancement in technology--taichi's group still kicks around in the late 90's and daisuke's in the Y2K era, but Takato's group is like 20 years later when technology is way more advanced, and Data Squad's only a few years after that. I think it'll be like 40 or 50 years total that time passes by in the story.
OH and I'm not touching Tri or Hurricane Touchdown. Nothing against Wallace or Meiko, they're just oddballs and feel kinda outside the main story (which is the entire idea but still).
Basically, there's three main things I'm focusing on changing in the entire rewrite
Character connections--the character arcs themselves are beautiful (esp in sub...) but I feel like with so many different characters, they'll need a little more time and a lot more crossover to be properly handled. one thing I liked about the 2020 adventure reboot was that it took a little more time with each character's introduction (even if their screentime was robbed a lot.)
Digiworld lore -- most notably, the way the digidestined are chosen, who rules digiworld, what it is, and how the portals to and from digiworld work. there's like a bazillion ways to get in and out of digiworld since the kids are always searching for that lmao, it needs to be a bit more reliable! (oh speaking of, the crests change around just a wee bit as well. trust me)
Digivolutions -- these also lacked consistency. I'll admit, while digimon having evo trees instead of lines is awesome and an incredible way to display character development and uniqueness, the inconsistency of who evolves into who and how digimon get categorized is easily reworkable.
I'll go into deep dive posts about each of these eventually but I wanna get them sorted out first! and yes, there's gonna be art. bc I miss my babies. and I haven't drawn digimon stuff in a REALLY long time and I seriously need to rework it.
