It’s super interesting to follow journey of this game by Lorenze. At least I know the dev under that name. It’s quite a success story for an rpg maker and it’s heartwarming that a personal project might get so much positive attention.

So, why’s everyone, me included, so hyped abou She Dreams Elsewhere? It’s the look and sound of the game, both are cooler than most games. The look’s reminiscent of Tales of Phantasia and other 16-bit jRPG with multiple twists, which make it so chic. It’s the deliberate work with colours, making the whole colour predominantly black and white using acid blue and magenta for highlights and for an emotional effect. The next twist is ambiguously modern setting. Together with colour palette it feels often estranged.  Hand drawn portraits of characters make us care on the other hand.

Have I mentioned music? This is more than a Final Fantasy or Earthbound inspired copycat.
