LITPro’s Take on Winning @ Loretta’s

We have been fortunate to work with several of the top athletes at Loretta’s for the last two years. We spent the last couple weeks reviewing all the LITPro data from Loretta’s and identified a couple key themes. Here’s a summary from the best laps at Loretta’s (excludes all LITPro laps over 2:00):

It’s amazing to see such a consistent track from year to year. MX Sports (likely their chosen contractor) rebuilds it each year, and they seem to do so with great care. All of our key metrics were remarkably consistent from 2014 to 2015.

Here are a few tips based on analyzing the LITPro data:

1. Find your fast line. Throughout 2014 and 2015, LITPro captured some really different lines at Loretta’s, from a shortest line of around 4800 feet to a longest line of around 5300 feet. That’s more than a 500 ft (10%) swing. Assuming an average speed of 30 mph, it takes 11.4 seconds to cover 500 feet of travel.

However, the fastest 10 laps LITPro tracked in both 2014 AND 2015 were all between 5050 and 5150 feet. The fastest athletes found the right mix of inside and outside lines. And that’s where LITPro can really help.

To maximize your advantage, make the most of your practices on Monday. Vary your lines, then review the LITPro data that evening to visualize your fastest line and the corresponding marks you need to hit to replicate those lines.

2. Control your speed. It all comes down to 27 laps per class. With only 3 motos you have to finish reasonably well in all three to maximize your shot at the championship. Based on reviewing 300 laps from the last 2 years at Loretta’s, we can confidently say that the fastests laps DO NOT correlate well with the fastest top speed. Focus on flow, not raw speed.

3. Get a good start. The first 15 feet make or break the start. To get a holeshot in one of the top classes at Loretta’s, you need to pass the 15 ft. mark in 0.95 seconds or less. Practice starts every time you ride. And use LITPro’s Gatedrop feature to determine the optimal mix of factors that will give you your best results for each gatedrop.
