Potentially luke warm take but–
I feel like Graves displays all the symptoms of Anti Social Personality disorder, whether he would be considered ‘good representation’ or not isn’t up to me considering I know I don’t have ASPD, but here me out:
According to the NHS the main behavioral patterns of ASPD are:
Exploit, manipulate or violate the rights of others
Lack concern, regret or remorse about other people's distress
Behave irresponsibly and show disregard for normal social behaviour
Have difficulty sustaining long-term relationships
Be unable to control their anger
Lack guilt, or not learn from their mistakes
Blame others for problems in their lives
Repeatedly break the law
This is behaviour Graves shows blatantly throughout the games he’s in.
Especially numbers 1-3 and 5-7.
“But he cares for his Shadows!”
Not really , he views them as being disposable, name one shadow outside of Graves? Go on, one, one death from his team he even acknowledges. He cares about them the same way you would care for an ant farm, if all or most of them die you’d be pretty bummed out, but you haven’t formed bonds to specific ants .
Which actually as I type this links to 4 quite well. Graves actually doesn’t get why 141 is still pissed at him, I bet he won’t get why Price turned on Shepherd either outside of understanding it from an eye for an eye perspective. Like this doesn’t absolve him of the war crimes he’s committed it just explains why I think he fully expected 141 especially Gaz (who hadn’t been in Los Almas at the time he initially did the whole betrayal) to just be chill with him again now he was working with their allies.
I think him and Alex are going to be a really funny duo in MW4 for this reason, they’re both really strong criticisms of Americana heroism in two completely different directions.
