sometimes bill feels especially close to eddie because they share something others won’t necessarily understand on the same level they do. the way his speech impediment hinders him in real life, causes adults to dismiss him or interrupt him mid-sentence because they’re either embarrassed or impatient, the way he gets looked down upon as if it’s his mistake that he can’t speak the way others do. he feels out of place a lot, like he can’t say some things or convey his feelings because he’s scared of annoying people, so most of the time he won’t bother with it. he feels close to eddie in this way because he thinks eddie has a deeper understanding of that: that the feelings that come with his stutter seem to be similar to those eddie has about his asthma. eddie rarely interrupts him, and when they’re alone, bill doesn’t stutter that much because he feels comfortable and doesn’t even think about the fact that he does stutter, and this carefree feeling he has is what he loves a lot about eddie.
