So, watching an old movie (2001) on Prime called ‘Lost Voyage’. You know, typical horror flick where the ship disappears into the Bermuda Triangle and then reappears 25 years later, etc etc...and look who I spotted!

Looks like Crowley took a turn as a salvage operator before being crowned King of Hell.

Update: Halfway through the movie and guess who’s the first to die? If you guessed our very own Mark Sheppard via electrocution, then you are correct! Unfortunately we’re all out of door prizes.

Update 2: So I totally took one for the team here and can unequivocally say that everyone deserved what they got for not following even the simplest of horror movie rules. At the beginning of the film, they see actual ghosts and get proof and even SAY ‘nobody go anywhere alone’ etc so what do they do? You guessed, everyone goes off alone to do their own thing and they all fuckin’ DIE and it serves ‘em all right. Much as I love you, Mark, this was a terrible movie and I think you got off easy being the first to go.

10) Lost Voyage

Title- Lost Voyage

Year- 2001

Character- Ian Fields

Synopsis- It’s 1972 and the cruise ship SS Corona Queen disappears without trace into the Bermuda Triangle, leaving behind orphan Aaron Roberts whose parents were on the ship. Skip to present-day and Aaron is now a ghost-hunter with a lifelong obsession with the Corona. Then, suddenly, the ship reappears, and Aaron has the offer of getting on board with a paranormal TV crew, before a storm threatens to wipe her off the map once more.

Medium- B-movie, Youtube, good quality 

Entirety or episode?- Entirety

Overall verdict- OK, I will personally fight anyone who says that this isn’t a great film. It’s cheerfully cheap-looking, but for all that manages to have a great atmosphere that is on occasion sincerely spooky (That fresh food! The music when the electricity comes back on! “The children were the last to go” SHUDDER). The writing is good, the story is good, the casting and acting is good, the sets are good and for a trashy B-horror it’s actually very nicely shot in places. The characters are on the whole very likeable and there is a great deal of logic in place for a horror flick. Leading man Aaron is just the most relatable basset-hound of a guy who is gratifyingly jumpy for a ghost-hunter and consistently makes some of the most sensible and practical decisions I’ve seen a horror protagonist make – despite still being the nice dude who reluctantly goes back to help people. Even the terrible CGI ghosts manage to be more old-school than crappy. For me, this had a feel of the remake of House on Haunted Hill vs Ghostbusters, via Ghost Ship and it was a ton of fun.

Screen time – He gets a solid ten minutes before he snuffs it.

Accent- Cockney

Mark’s character- Oh, Fieldsy. I love you a bit. Fields is a chirpy Cockney wideboy running a quasi-legal salvage operation along with his bestie Daz, and aren’t they the most adorable duo? He doesn’t get much screen time, but he manages to pack in gambling, drinking, gleefully telling ghost stories and recounting Lad-Bible anecdotes of being ‘right up to our dicks in maggots’. I was legit sorrowful to see this cheeky fearless blagger go, in what was an excruciatingly drawn-out, slow motion car-crash of a demise that you could see coming for miles and may want to watch through your fingers. Hats off to your acting talents in this one, Mr S. And yay that a gruesome fiery death wasn’t the last we see of Fields, and that Daz is actually given some cinematic mourning time.

Highlight- His ‘bad scotch’ face, his ‘I can’t afford a crate of scotch’ face, his ‘evil ghost tempting you to your doom’ smirk, or that spectacular death. Also, no, we didn’t miss that flirty flicker of tongue, you bad boy. Bonus points for Shaw’s ‘you what?’ expression when Aaron asks “Are you sure he was dead?” after we’ve just witnessed Fieldsy’s char-grilled corpse.

Rewatch?- Absodefilutely. Purchasing on DVD as I type.
