evanescence is really fucking good.

as a musician myself who has studied music theory and history for over six years, i really appreciate evanescence's music. the structure of each song, the orchestral accompaniments, amy's vocals and keyboard parts, everything is amazing and they really are technical geniuses. and yet, the vast majority have only ever heard 'Bring Me To Life' and nothing else, which always pissed me off because they have so many beautiful, skillfully crafted songs. so why shouldn't they be more famous than they are?

the only reason evanescence isn't more popular is because it's fronted by a woman.

other bands with similar styles and the same technical complexities are always more popular and get fame. examples that come to my mind are breaking benjamin and pierce the veil, but there are many more with similar style and layers and talented bands like these always get the recognition they deserve.

but only if they're fronted by men.

I think I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that Amy Lee/Ben Moody/some Evanescence member posted all of their old demo tracks online as free to download because “no one should have to pay for this crap” or something along those lines. I can’t find that source now, but that quote always stuck with me growing up because I loved their old demo stuff just as much as their studio work (and still do!)

But if that is true, then damn that’s powerful because you know these days that it’d be locked behind some kind of paywall that would just end up screwing Amy and the others out of their money.
