Madara watched the unfamiliar person back away from him, something that he had been long used to in his encounters with those who knew of his prowess and past.

Seeing them trip backward over the root of a tree that protruded the ground only solidified his first impression; they seemed rather ordinary and nothing that garnered much from him.

“Apologizing for simply running into someone unknown is not necessary, you wouldn’t have known of my presence before unless you were a shinobi.” Madara didn’t consider that they could be, there’s no way they wouldn’t have noticed his chakra presence.

She’d been moved from her human body to her current AI program a few months previous, and Ko could say for certain that she was enjoying. She’d been granted her own kind of immortality. It was very interesting.

“Please do not forget, you have an appointment outside of the city today.” She hummed.

Aina is curled up by the bank of the creek, her toes dipped in the stream. Though her left hand is sore from punching a hole in the tree behind her, she hugs her thighs to her chest, now and then rubbing her soaked cheeks against her knees to dry them. The air is cooler than it’s supposed to be, but that could be because her insides have turned into burning lumps of coal. It’s a wonder there isn’t steam building up around her feet.

Through her flooded vision, she makes out a blur of blond bobbing shyly in the periphery between the trees.

Misaki?

Oh no.

That girl may well be the only person in the world she can bear to be around in this moment. Yet rather than take comfort in her presence, her body spasms with another wave of tears. If there is a quick way to stop crying once you start, she has not yet mastered it.

Aina squeezes her eyes shut and turns her head, burying as much as she can of her face in her shoulder. She snorts up what snot she can back into her nose. “D-don’--don’ look a’me,” she sobs. “Please. Don’ look a’me. I-I’m ugly.”

This whole wide world is ugly. Or is it people who make it that way?

Aina and Misaki!

Favorite thing about your muse: Aina most enjoys Misaki’s gentle nature, her appreciation for nature and fantasy, and the fact that she’s one of the few people in the Sound who consistently respects her.

First impression of your muse: “Ah, she’s so pretty! She looks like a fairy. The delicate kind. I wonder what she’s doin’ here…y’know, she also looks a little bit like Ibiki. The more I look at ‘er, the more I see a resemblance. Except Ibiki never said nothin’ ‘bout havin’ a family.”

5 Headcanons for Aina and Misaki!

1. They first met in the middle of the time skip between Part 1 and Part 2 of canon. Aina had just been recruited by the Sound, while Misaki was in the middle of her training. Aina made things awkward by pointing out Misaki’s resemblance to Ibiki, which she followed up with a comment on how Ibiki had never mentioned any relatives, and then followed that up with a question about whether Misaki had been driven out of the Leaf, too…as Aina had just been.

2. Aina is decidedly the more dominant of the two, often inviting Misaki to join in on her many attempts to make the Sound a better place to live. On the one hand, it’s nice to have a friend who doesn’t find her or her ideas dumb or annoying. On the other, it worries her sometimes how passive Misaki can be.

3. Aina picked up on the tension between Misaki and Kabuto almost immediately. It took her a little longer to realize the nature of that tension, but she could tell it existed right away. When she can’t mediate between the two, she offers to take Kabuto’s place as Misaki’s “nurse” to put space between them. Later, when she discovered they shared a possible mutual attraction, she tried to help them actively get along better. She would change her tune about this as her own relationship with Orochimaru grew acrimonious (not that it wasn’t always fraught to begin with, because it was, but after a handful of incidents, Aina found herself wanting less and less to do with him on a personal level).

4. While she didn’t recognize it as a special ability, as Misaki later would, another thing Aina noticed about Misaki was her tendency to become overwhelmed quickly, especially in front of emotional displays. It was definitely something she could empathize with, herself having always been sensitive to the emotions of others but often unsure how to respond to them. As such, she did her best to only approach Misaki with a calm and happy mindset. But given her own issues, that wasn’t always possible. Misaki has bore sole witness to a handful of Aina’s terrifying meltdowns in their time together.

5. Aina’s heart broke on the day Misaki was sent to the Leaf as a spy. After Orochimaru died and she turned over the rest of his estate to Tsunade, she urged Tsunade to take care of Misaki. It would be several years before they would see each other again; by then, Aina would have settled into the life of a hermit.
