Dammit the first part of my reply got deleted and i cant remember for the life of me what I wrote �� Something about Prompto not knowing the full details of the fate of Noctis/Luna and Astrals, and his starstruck being limited? Which was semi intentionaly bc right away he treated Noctis as a normal guy

Yeah I was wondering about what the first part was supposed to say XD

I sort of believe that the royal family of Lucis would be seen by the public as at least semi-divine. Royalty irl claiming descendence from the gods was really common (king of France, emperor of Japan, emperor of China, etc.), so it seems to me that the Lucian royal line would definitely play up their relationship to the divine. That’s why I think the king and the oracle would be seen as some sort of religious figures or divine figures. Even if Prompto doesn’t know about Noctis’s personal destiny, he’s still associated with the only family in Lucis that has god-given magic in its blood. That’s why I was saying I think that Prompto would have some kind of reverence for Noctis’s magic, which would be difficult to separate from reverence for the man himself. At the end of the day, I’m sure that Prompto believes in, loves, trusts, and follows Noctis, the person, not Noctis, the king. But I do think that it would be very difficult for a religious Prompto to completely avoid having his perception of Noctis shaped by his beliefs, and his beliefs shaped by his relationship with Noctis in turn.

Prompto seeks confort in the astrals before meeting Noctis, probably is amazed by the astrals throughout the span of the games, but during the 10 year break with some hints of Noctis' unhappiness beforehand and Noct's disappearance, he sees them for the shits they are.

OMG, good, yes, thank you. I’m so glad you agree with me! I have kindof a personal vendetta against the Astrals. Especially Bahamut. I thought the idea of Prompto who is religious was interesting because I’d never really thought about it before. But it makes sense that he’d want to depend on a higher power if he otherwise has only neglectful parents to depend on. Also, since Luna was the one to encourage him to meet Noctis, he might see her intervention in his life - or at least the fact of meeting Pryna/Chibi - as some kind of miracle or divine intervention.

I have questions about how Prompto would view Noctis, especially if the above is true. Like, does he see Noctis as semi-divine? I feel like this could lead to some hero worship and seriously change the dynamic that they have. Or, after actually meeting Noctis Prompto maintains this weird and uneasy balance in his mind where there are 2 Nocts, one who is his friend and one who is the king, and he sort of never really mentions the king-Noct who exists in his mind although it does influence the way he interacts with Noctis. Like maybe it keeps him hoping, up until the point where Noctis goes into the crystal, that Noctis will... change somehow? Turn the situation around? That things aren’t as bad as they seem? I think he’d later regret having that attitude, because if he hadn’t had it, maybe he could have done something or at least talked to Noctis about what was going on better.

I honestly wish that Prompto would throw those great cosmic fucks in the trash even faster than that, like when Luna dies. Since she was an integral part of his worldview. Or even back in high school. But sadly, I think canon supports the interpretation where he believes up until the Dark World more. It’s actually the only explanation I have come across so far for why Prompto doesn’t explicitly reach out to Noctis when he’s clearly suffering during the road trip. 

Okay sorry this was probably a longer answer than you were expecting. I have a lot of feelings about Prompto okay
