A Headcannon Idea for Lotor’s Surname
So as I’m sure a lot of you have noticed, in space aliens don’t seem big on surnames. Really I think that’s understandable since the alien’s name tends to be pretty long or hard to pronounce. No need to make it more complicated. And one particular alien I wanna talk about is the character Prince Lotor from the DreamWorks Netflix series Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Whenever I read AU stories I notice that people either don’t give him a surname at all or use the name of the Galra home planet, Daibazaal, as his last name. Now I don’t know about you guys, but to me using a home planet for a surname just seems a bit...well, stuffy. I’m not blaming those who do use it of course! Let’s get that straight right now. If you guys want to use Daibazaal for Lotor’s surname, and perhaps use it as a surname for his parents too, then by all means. Feel free to do so. I’m just saying it doesn’t roll off the tongue for me that well. So I’ve been thinking of what other kind of surname Lotor could have. And after some contemplation I finally thought of the perfect last name for our hybrid prince!
For those of you who don’t know, Lotor’s name comes from the scientific name that is Procyon Lotor. Which is this animal...
That’s right. Lotor’s name pretty much translates as “raccoon”. With that in mind I let my mind wander for ideas. And eventually I remembered my favorite Procyon Lotor. Who? Why it’s this dashing fellow~
See where I’m going with this? I suggest that Lotor’s alternate universe/human surname should be Cooper - in honor of the charming internationally known Thievius Raccoonus master Sly Cooper that we all known and love! Of course I’m not saying this is how it has to be. You guys can use the name, or not. It’s really up to you.
And in addition to coming up with a surname for Lotor, my fond memories of the Sly Cooper videogames actually inspired me to make a new VLD alternate universe story idea. What is it exactly? Well that’s a surprise for another day. Also I might actually make up surnames for Allura and Coran, but I make no promises. I’ll be off now. Oh, and also...
Happy July 4th, and happy birthday to Steve Rogers!
