Collector's Edition: Scully and the Green-Eyed Monster
Happy Belated Birthday to @cecilysass! Here's a fic collection fer yeh.
(**Note**: I have another list featuring more jealousy fics here.)
Loose chronological order below~
@lotsoforangesoutside/lots_of_oranges_outside's
Cutie (Ao3)
“The Dana Scully I know never gets jealous.”
“You’re right, I wasn’t jealous.”
Dana can hear her friend’s sarcastic nod through the phone lines.
Post-Fire Scully isn't as subtle as she'd like to think.
Too Early to Tell (Ao3)
“You guys finished the dishes already?” Scully sound surprised, glancing at the radio clock. “So she did convince you to let her help. I guess I owe her five bucks now.”
Mulder stares into her big blue eyes, not sure why they suddenly look a tiny bit upset.
Post-One Firewalker Scully is frustrated with Mulder and her sister.
Pioneer Club (Ao3)
“It’s nothing.” His smile is too smug for her liking. Scully bites her upper lip, a gesture she suspects is unlady-like. She doesn’t know how to phrase her question so she doesn’t sound nosy or… jealous.
Post-Bad Blood Mulder receives a postcard.
Caddyshack (Ao3)
“Only you’d think jealous women are cute, Mulder, other people think they’re scary.” she copies him in tone. “Now, do you wanna watch this, or what?”
Post-Je Souhaite Mulder and Scully discuss jealousy and gophers.
sospooky's Three Pipe Problem (Ao3)
“If you cared about him at all-”
She doesn’t know where she’s going with this, only that she knows she wants this woman out of his life as quickly as she came into it the second time around, with a stone-cold smile and a cassette tape.
Fire Scully is both protective of Mulder and jealous of Phoebe.
@agentwhalesong's (Ao3) Throughout The Years - Chapter 3
Before this case he had thought it was all in his head, that the way she responded to his flirting was just her way of joking, of telling him she was onto him, kind of a friendly reminder that she was out of his league (because honestly, she was). But now…
He had seen a side of her he had never seen before: she was jealous.
Syzygy Mulder realizes Scully's jokes are a form of flirting.
@baronessblixen/Baroness_Blixen's
A Bit On The Nose (Ao3)
“Do you need me to scoot over?”
“It’s fine,” she says, sitting on the edge of the bed with her back to him. She lies down, keeping to the edge, and as far away from Mulder as possible. She’s never once minded sharing space with him. They’ve even shared a bed before, once or twice. Today she’s too aware of his body and things unspoken. There’s too much between them. Except space.
Post-Syzygy Scully is forced to share a bed with her partner.
Her Name Was Bambi
"Bambi, Bambi, Bambi," Scully's nephew Matthew, sitting on the carpet in front of the TV, babbles excitedly, clapping his hands. Next to her, Mulder chuckles. She throws him a sideway glance, wondering if he's thinking about the same thing she is. She is not thinking about a cute, orphaned fawn. Not even close. No, she's thinking about a different Bambi.
Dr. Bambi Berenbaum.
Post-Millennium Mulder and Scully are roped into babysitting.
@amplifyme/wonderland/Lydia Bower's Unnamed
“Forgot my shaving kit,” he explained. And then he shook his head violently, droplets of water flying from his hair and splattering her, the bed, the wall, the nightstand, and everything else close by.
‘’Hey!” she cried and swatted at him. Mulder easily dodged her open hand and headed back for the bathroom.
“We used to have a dog that did that after we gave him a bath,” she called out as he disappeared into the steamy room. “Mom made him sleep in the garage.”
He poked his head around the door. “If that’s supposed to scare me, Scully, it won’t work. Your mom likes me.”
“She liked the dog too, Mulder.”
“Bet she never baked a peach pie for him,” he shot back.
Post-War of the Coprophages Scully is almost jealous.
Donna's
Holding Hands (Gossamer)
His ‘chickadee’, that’s what Frohike had called her. All three of the guys had been very uncomfortable talking to her about Diana. Why was that? What exactly constituted a ‘chickadee’ for Mulder? They were lovers, she’d supplied that for herself. At least they had been. Would they be again, tomorrow?
The End Scully licks her wounds in private.
Sleepless
They all watched as Langly ran the copies that Skinner had brought. Scully was really surprised at the amount of activity for a weekend. Of course the Bureau was a 24/7 organization but it looked like a regular workday Saturday morning. It was a little after 9 a.m. that Frohike spotted him.
"Look over there. Isn't that him with someone? Who - "
"Diana," Scully said flatly. She was frozen in place.
Skinner had been peering at the couple on the screen. Her movement caused him to look over at her. Her face was set, her manner glacial.
Pre-Biogenesis Scully finds a drugged Mulder in his basement.

Little chickadee.
Is that how the Lone Gunmen are going to explain me away to the next green agent that manages to wind up loving the most insensitive, the most beautiful man on earth?
Mulder, Scully, and their hardships (and honest conversations) through the years. (Sidenote: this is a long-ish fic series, but I didn't have the capacity to include every link.)

Day 26: “Why would I care?” (Ao3)
Just then, Mulder waltzes into the office on his cell phone. “Yeah, seven sounds great. I’ll meet you there. Talk soon.”
He sits at his desk with his feet up, lost in thought.
“What’s at seven?”
“Huh?”
“Rendezvous you just secured for seven?”
“Oh! Oh, that’s nothing. Just made plans to meet up with Diana to catch up on some things.”
Diana. Before she’s able to stop herself, she scoffs.
S6 Scully cries in an elevator.
Day 18: Pool Party (Ao3)
Working on the 6th floor, integrated with all of Kersh’s minions irritates her to no end. She’s just better at hiding it than her better half. Said better half, is sulking at his desk chewing on the end of a pencil. His chair squeaking while he swivels it to the right and left.
S6 Scully is not pleased with the bullpen secretaries.
Day 2: Cocktail (Ao3)
Scully takes it from his relenting grasp and pours its contents down the kitchen drain.
She then takes his hand and leads him into the bedroom.
S6 Mulder remembers Diana's order.
Day 31: “It’s not your fault”
“You got something going on with the delivery man I should know about?” A perfectly manicured eyebrow cocks high to her hairline.
“Not tonight. My dance card is full.” Mulder shrugs apathetically.
“Shame. Willing to make an exception?” Her hand starts to work on the buttons of her blazer right here in his hallway.
“Mulder? Who are you talking to?”
Behind a half dressed Fox Mulder is an equally undressed Dana Scully.
S6 Scully is there when Mulder shoos Diana out the door.
@xxsksxxx/xxSKSxx's Crossroads (Ao3)
“What’s really going on here, Scully?” I don’t think you’ve ever not remembered to bring me lunch when I was working through our lunch break.” Scully snorted, and Mulder snapped his mouth shut in irritation.
“Is this about Diana being here?” he growled and crossed his arms over his chest. “You can’t be serious!”
Pre-Two Fathers Scully and Mulder are frustrated with each other.

Ficlets (Tumblr Prompt) - Chapter 85 and Chapter 89
Scully is not the jealous type. Protective yes, maybe even possessive. But her temperament only allows her to portray it in a subdued way, which is why their conversation at the Gunmen’s hurt so much. Her tumultuous feelings are palpable. Scully doesn’t understand his tangled relationship with Diana – however could she? Its not as though he’s explained it to her. And to make matters worse, to explain things to Scully, to reassure – and soothe her, really – he’d have no choice but to reveal the deep emotional feelings he’s had for her over last several years of their partnership.
Post-One Son Mulder must face his actions in order to help a heartsick Scully.
Erin M. Blair's (Ao3) Mistaken Moments
"I do trust you, Scully. Look, I have told you several months ago in a different hallway that - "
"I don't need to hear this again, Mulder. You already decided that you trust Diana Fowley more than me," said Scully. Her voice was cracking emotionally. There were unshed tears in her eyes, just waiting to fall. She was exhausted from talking with Mulder. She decided to be open and to remain strong. She needed to tell him the truth. "I feel like a fool, Mulder. I'm jealous of Diana Fowley. She shared a part of you that I never had. She calls you by your first name and you never let me call you Fox. I have to admit it bothers me."
Post-One Son Skinner sends his agents on vacation to work out their feelings.
Invisigoth421's Unexpected Bedfellows
"Yeah," he replied. "I was jealous. And I acted like a jerk."
"You act like a jerk quite frequently," Scully replied.
"You're being mean, Scully," he said, trying to look dejected, but Scully would have none of it.
"Think of the countless times you've ditched me," she said." Think of the countless times you've looked me in the eye and told me how wonderful Diana Fowley was. Why do you do it? Why do you do it, and then get jealous when I do the same thing?"
Scully wanted the truth. He could see it in her eyes.
"I always thought you found me annoying Scully," he replied. If she wanted the truth, she would get it.
"Not always," She replied "Sometimes, yes."
"I thought you just tolerated me, most of the time. So I figured it never mattered when I acted like a jerk. It wouldn't make any difference."
"Mulder, you weren't TRYING to make me jealous, with the whole Fowley thing, were you?" Scully asked.
Post-One Son Mulder and Scully wake in bed together, unable to remember what happened. (Bonus: Mulder jealousy.)
@spookyshipperfics/spooky_shipper's The Finer Things (Ao3)
Scully felt heat pooling in her chest. “This is our assignment, Agent Fowley. Our case.”
“And I never meant to imply it wasn’t,” Diana said, taking a step forward. “It’s just Fox and I have a history. We work better when we are alone without... distractions.”
Any mask of professionalism Diana attempted to wear turned transparent. Scully saw right through her. Now, they were just two women with a man between them. “I have no doubt your reasons for wanting to partner off with Mulder carry a personal angle,” Scully practically spat.
“Now you just sound jealous.”
“You’ve been trying to get him alone since you arrived.”
AU-- Post-One Son Mulder and Scully run into Diana while undercover on a train.

The Nature of the Beast
Recent events have sensitized him to Scully's moods. She is human, after all, and can also fall prey to human doubts and fears. Yet it seems beneath her to be jealous. Even mentioning the possibility to her is perilous. On the other hand, for them the lines between the personal and the professional blur more with each passing day. Before they got the X-Files back and things were going to hell all around them, he'd been dismissive of Scully's concerns. She'd turned out to be right, up to a point. He has yet to truly acknowledge that to her.
Will it always be this hard? Will Scully question any and all females who cross his path, and how will he be able to tell if it's a personal or professional concern?
Alpha Scully and Mulder are disappointed with their stalling relationship.
@lokisgame/Lokisgame's Unnamed
“So I’m not a tall, leggy blonde, so what” she said quietly, her lips closing around the straw for a second “you can find yourself one and ask her out to the movies next time, if you want”
“I don’t” he began but she shushed him reaching for some popcorn from the bag in his hands, eyes fixed on the screen.
Scully and Mulder and a movie.
Narida Law's Unscrupulous
She didn't need to walk anything off. She just had to keep those women at the requisition desk from ogling what was hers. Granted, it seemed that =every= female at FBI headquarters seemed to get all moony-eyed and twitterpated at the sight of her tall, well-dressed, impeccably groomed partner, but those women at requisitions were the worst. They never bothered to hide the fact that they were all over him like static cling on pantyhose.
It was sick. It was disgusting. And Scully, for one, would not stand for it.
Post-Amor Fati Scully is tired of other women ogling Mulder's hair.
@feejee-mermaid/feejee_mermaid's Turn and Face the Strange (Ao3)
Scully thought of Chastity and involuntarily bristled, then chastised herself for the juvenile feeling. She wasn’t sure she wanted to examine it very closely. The girl had shamelessly checked out her partner and Mulder had done a double take. She’d leveled him with a look, and he’d chuckled sheepishly, and that was that. But she worried about her reaction. She knew she had a possessive streak running below the surface, buried deep like a copper vein.
It tended to flare whenever he got appreciative glances from waitresses, rental car agents, flight attendants, or even the more overt come-ons from the Shelia Fontaines who seemed to inhabit every pocket of small town America. Wherever they went, women were undressing him with their eyes. Not that she could really blame them. She had eyes herself.
Rush Scully battles some ups and downs in Millennium's wake.
@wexleresque/hellsteeth's
the fbi basement bulletin board - Chapter 15 (Ao3)
Scully leans against the wall nearest the door and crosses her arms over her chest. She can't help the annoyed sigh that escapes her lips when the witness laughs airily and places her hand over Mulder's for a split second. She chooses to think that the feeling in her stomach is second hand embarrassment instead of jealousy. Which is probably being too generous to herself.
S7 Scully marks her turf.

Sukie Tawdry's The Way Things Are (1) and The Way Things Are (2)
Mulder had done as she'd asked, keeping his concern to himself, and in the process, keeping his distance. He spoke to her only when necessary and kept his comments work related. He made no move to carry her luggage and didn't turn around in the airport to see if she was following him. Head held high, she refused to ask for help, even when her head pounded and her legs felt like lead.
It was a pitched battle between the two of them--Mulder's studied unconcern, Scully's stubborn pride. Her independence proved almost impossible for her to maintain. Trips to the ladies room became longer and longer as she vomited up every morsel she consumed.
In the campaign to return to business as usual, Mulder seemed to find an ally in the lovely detective who had called them in on the case. Pam Clayton was tall and slim and completely professional. Scully would have hated her if she could muster up the energy.
AU-- Post-Miracle Man Scully and Mulder stumble into parenthood (and a slow-burn relationship.)

Still, whether it’s irrational or not, she doesn’t quite feel equal to the task of striding into that room and breaking up their intimate moment. Calling Mulder from the car seems safer, for now, with the damned progesterone messing with her emotions, making her feel things she knows can’t be real.
Because she can’t be jealous. She just can’t.
AU-- The IVF arc spans Season 5, FTF, and Season 6: smack dab in the middle of the Diana Fowley's appearance.
He still has trouble getting the words out, all these months later; he swallows dryly.
Jenn jabs a thumb at the desk. “Medical records right there. So. Are you still trying to show off? Or do you really not want to live?” Mulder doesn't answer, his chest tight; Jenn shakes her head and adds, “I guess you are showing off. But it's not impressing anyone. I'd figure you'd at least want to live for that jealous partner of yours.”
“I said I wasn't going to make a wish for me,” he says determinedly, even if the guilt is building in his throat like bile.
AU-- S7 Scully is a bit jealous when she and her dying partner run into a genie.
TheAddict4Dramatics's Untitled Requiem Ficlet
She really thought that she was done crying in the bathroom over this woman. Why couldn’t she just stay dead? He was going to go, he was going to go with Diana and insist that she stayed put. She could hear his argument – they’re taking abductees, it’s not safe for you, I won’t risk it. She’d always hated the petty jealous side she knew she had, it was far from an envious or endearing quality. But this was so much more than the usual bubble of annoyance that bloomed in her chest whenever somebody else was sniffing around him. Diana had such a genuine claim on him; so much history and shared belief, it caused that bubble to morph into something much more solemn and final. Even after their relationship had changed so dramatically in the last few weeks. It turned out she was still insecure about what she meant to him.
Suddenly there was a loud banging on the door.
“Scully it’s me, let me in.” She looked at the door but made no move to unlock it. “I know you’re in there and I’m going to wait here until you let me in so just do it please.”
AU-- Requiem Scully is shaken by Diana's reappearance.

Here we go. Here come the claws. He wouldn't smile. He wouldn't.
"I can't believe we left our children with her," she said, her voice climbing a few decibels.
"I don't think she's evil, Scully. Misguided and a little slutty maybe? But not dangerous. I don't think the children will need therapy. Not from that anyway."
"Just where does she get off seducing other women's husbands? I have half a mind to pay her a visit and have a little woman to woman chat with her."
Mulder chuckled now. At least the daggers weren't flying at him anymore. Don't mess with jealous Scully.

“But they don’t know that, Scully,” Mulder assures her as he tugs her into the ice cream parlor. It is uncannily warm and smells like sugar and whipped cream.

He broke off and coughed heavily, and she could see he had pilfered a latex glove from the nearby table.
"Mulder, you shouldn't be--" She broke off as he wheezed into the glove again, blowing it up like a balloon.
He held his hand out for the rubber band. "Give me one," he said, his voice almost gone. When she didn't immediately respond, he made an impatient grabbing motion.
She set a red one in his palm and he twisted it around the base of the glove. Pleased with his efforts, he smiled at it and flicked it back and forth with his fingers. "Ta da!" he said in just the barest whisper. He handed the glove balloon to her. "Happy birthday, Scully."

She’d turned thirty-one last week. Her mother had taken her out to a nice dinner, she’d received cards from the few med school friends she still kept in touch with, and after two glasses of wine she’d fallen asleep on her couch, only to be woken by Mulder calling past two AM. Whumpay Day 15: self-hatred (Ao3)
Scully is alone in the office in late February, 1996, when there's a hesitant knock at the door. It's Saturday, she's already got plans for the weekend — she's meeting up with Mulder tonight to catch him up on the case she's been studying while he was out complainingly recovering from a sprained ankle, then dinner with her mother tomorrow, because it's her birthday and Maggie wanted to do something.
Post-Pusher Holly wishes Scully a happy birthday.
how to live, not how to cry (Ao3)
When Scully walks into the office on the morning of February 23rd, 1997, she is shoving a reddened tissue into her pocket to throw away when Mulder isn't looking. There is a rhythm to how they go about office days, now, a different one than before her illness. She would have forgotten her own birthday if first Charlie — at far too early, forgetting the time difference between them — and then her mother hadn't called to wish her a happy one. She wishes it could be happier, without the shadow of her impending death hanging over her and reminding her that likelier than not, this will be her last birthday.

When he first saw just exactly who Agent Mulder was, he knew he didn't stand a chance. It only got worse when he found out they were married from the office grapevine. "After last year, I figure you deserve to enjoy a birthday sans-governmental conspiracy," Mulder teased. Then, sombering in a way she wasn't used to, he said, "Besides, I'm… I'm really glad you made it to see 34, Scully."

Scully awoke to the sun beaming down at her through the curtains. Looking at her alarm clock she sighed in contentment when she saw 10:10 glaring back at her in red neon. "Not one of your finest ones. But hey, at least I wasn't trying to shoot you this time around."
"There is that." She smiled, turning to look up at him. "No Pusher creating havoc, convincing you to turn your gun on me."

With his ears deadened by the inane chatter of strangers all around him, Mulder almost misses the quiet snick of Maggie Scully’s back door closing. He’s pretty sure there’s only one person it can be, and a quick glance around the room, at all the distant relations and family friends he’s never met- or heard of, even- confirms it for him: Scully’s fiery hair is notably absent. Looking over at Mrs. Scully, he sees her daughter’s exit has not been wholly unnoticed, and with a quick jerk of her chin, Maggie gives Mulder permission to go after her. Which he does. Gladly. He’s a curiosity to these people, Dana’s crazy partner who believes in flying saucers. More a museum exhibit than a real person.

Five in One Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3
There is a photo in Mulder’s bedroom, on his dresser, that Scully always lingers over: him at four, maybe five, holding Samantha. She was a big baby, Samantha. He remembers lugging her around to show her matters of importance: worms in the garden or the nest of baby bunnies their mother found once, under the porch steps. He used to sit the baby Samantha on a beach towel on the lawn while he dug, for the two of them, a tunnel to go under the ocean. In the photo they are blonder than they ever were as older children. In the photo no one has tamed the cowlick at his crown. He is nuzzling his sister, smiling. Baby cheek on baby cheek. He doesn’t remember how she smelled—perhaps both of them like sunscreen, or ivory soap, or sweat.
Scully touches the photo now with reverence, as if stroking his cheek.

Tonight, Mulder was tired, not asleep. Scully placed a dripping dish on the rack by the sink and picked up the next one to scrub with the sponge. William proved contagious.
“I don’t know,” Scully said. She let a second dish drip. “My mom used to make it. She’d use my favorite jello, and pile strawberries on top. Thank you,” she said, mouth suddenly full with a strawberry Mulder put there. She ate it, swallowed, and said, “I remember Bill hated it.”
Mulder grinned. “Well, that’s reason enough,” he said, but the old rivalry had worn out, it was just something familiar and funny to say.

In spite of this, I am struck once again with the improbability that the laws of nature would mutate to allow such a phenomenon, to make a human being age fifty years in a matter of hours.””
Dod Kalm Scully waits for death, pondering science and impending death.
Sheryl Nantus/Sheryl Martin’s (FFN) Nine Minutes
““It was a long time, when you sat and timed it.
Watching the digital figures spin up through the cycle; headed for the top figure of 9:00. Or 540 seconds. Or whatever you measured it by.
It was still nine minutes. Nine minutes that she could never have back again.””
Cancer Arc Scully has lived her life in her own self-imposed time loop: continually obsessing over the 9 minutes she lost in the Pilot, trying vainly to regain them back by resetting her watch every few minutes.
It’s not quite a time loop; but Scully is locked mentally in one, so it counts.
[**Sidenote**: Works well with--]
@lyndsaybones’s (Ao3) Incremental
““The watch fit her perfectly when she got it. He remembers thinking that it seemed child sized then. Do they make Omega watches for kids?
But the weight started sloughing off of her like autumn leaves and he started to feel more fear than hope. The watch starts telling more than time.””
Mulder observes the measure of Scully’s decay with her expensive watch.
ChaneenW’s
The Birds and the Bees
““We’re in this together,” he insisted, turning to look at her face.
“We’re in this together,” she repeated, squeezing her arms more tightly around him.
“We just need to find a way to remind ourselves,” he said, starting to slur a little as his face froze. “Some small thing that we do or say could change the whole sequence of events and maybe knock ourselves out of the loop before it gets this far.””
FTF albatrosses of Antarctica keep resetting Mulder and Scully’s journey from the hallway and escape from the alien spaceship (with varying results) until those two right the wrongs the bee made. It quickly devolves from any possible angst into humor and heart while getting subtly funnier the longer the loop goes.
Twice Upon a Time
““The more time he spent here, though, the more it became uncomfortably clear that Eddie hadn’t been wrong about him. He had been a loser back then: too focused on searching for the big answers to see what was right in front of him. And although he’d been immediately attracted to Scully when they first met, had instantly respected her knowledge and expertise, and had come to quickly trust her with his life, he had to acknowledge that it had taken him longer than it should have to realize how much he loved her.””
S9 Mulder wakes in his old apartment, confused to learn he has traveled back to the Eddie van Blundht case. At first he has fun breezily solving it and looking anew at his life; but soon S4 Scully notices how differently he’s acting as the glitz and glamor of time-travel fades and homesickness sets in.
@fridaysat9′s (Ao3) A Second’s Fraction
““Why, and more importantly, how, was she standing in her apartment? She had just been in the hospital with injuries and broken bones. She had been talking to Mulder, wishing for pain meds and sleep.
She lifted her arm, surprised to find that it was no longer in a sling. She moved to touch her face, which was completely free of injuries. She patted her hands down the front of her clothes, realizing she was wearing the shirt she had put on that morning. It was clean, and free of spilled coffee.””
Post Drive-- Scully is reset from a horrific car accident, having to live the same day over and over. She, by turns: deals with it alone, tries breaking routine, tries following Diana, tries reaching out to Mulder... all for them to fail. Soon, she is losing hope.
This is engaging, and never gets old.
Jo-Ann Lassiter’s Many Happy Returns
““Why are you making me come here?"
It sounded so like a mortally-wounded Mulder that any fear she may have harbored toward the--whatever it was--evaporated. She stepped from behind Mulder, closer to the doppleganger. "I'm sorry. It was an accident. But where did you come *from?* And what are you?"
The doppleganger gave a bitter laugh. "I'm him," it said, pointing at Mulder, "five years ago. When you died in that operating room in Alaska," it addressed her partner.””
S6/7 Scully accidentally summons an alternate universe Mulder, who is distraught to be brought back from the dead. Normal-Mulder is fascinated, then empathetic at his alternate’s pleas and answers to their questions. Both fix the problem in between comedic quips, heart-string tugs, and ~romance~.
Donna’s One More Time
““She was burned, he'd heard them, they didn't know why she was still alive. 90% of her body, her hair was gone and her skin was blackened or raw. She was unconscious, thank goodness. What would the pain have been . . . he didn't finish that thought. They were talking about amputating her fingers to cut down on infection. They'd already said if she lived, if, that they would have to look for donor skin because she didn't have enough left to graft. He'd heard them; they were using cadaver skin on her now.””
S6/7 Mulder is shot back in time to save Scully from being burned alive by an arsonist... only for all his efforts to almost be in vain. Also, ~romance~.
@somanycandles/FootlessData507’s The Disappearance of Bruce Speta
““A very Mulder-type explanation was beginning to hatch in her brain.
“No,” she murmured to herself. “That’s not possible.” She shook her head, as if that would shake the theory away. But it wouldn’t go away.
What if they were both the real Mulder?
What if everything that everyone had told her was true?””
S6/7 Mulder and Scully place bets on finding out the cause of Tena’s friend’s problem: he suspects it’s the ghost of her missing husband while Scully thinks it’s a hoax. She, however, finds it’s all too real when she is shot into a mirror universe, where she needs the help of the “ghost” husband and her alternate self to get home.
Wonderfully fun, insightful, and leads to ~romance~.
Lolabeegood’s Five Months Lost (Gossamer)
““Sir, I need you to come over to my apartment right away. Mulder was here when I woke up."
"He was what?!" Skinner yelled.
"He's here, right now and...and he thinks he has been all along," she whispered as she looked toward the washroom.””
S8 Scully is shocked to find Mulder in her bed with false memories of the past five months. Skinner and TLG back her up to an increasingly terrified Mulder.
Such an underrated canon-divergent from S8-- so well-written, and it has the whole gang in character.
Gillian Leigh’s Visitor in the Desert
“Perplexed, Mulder opened his palm and lifted the dog tags out of his hand and examined them. He reached up behind him and turned on a light. The writing on the tags said,
Civilian Number: 11211013
Name: Rhiannon Mulder
DOB: December 22, 2002
His eyes widened. She was... his daughter?””
S9 Mulder is visited in the desert by his future daughter, who sends warnings from a bleak future. He high-tails it back to Scully, stops the adoption, and drags her, their family, and friends to an underground civilization built in advance of Colonization. Bill, Charlie, and Samantha already live there; and it’s a bit slice-of-lifey until Mulder decides to go on a vengeance mission that his future daughter has to come back, again, and warn him about.
““Oh.” She seemed to wear the holster to appease him rather than herself, and she gave no sign she intended to return inside to call anyone. “Did you disable my car?”
“Yes,” he admitted. “That’s my thing. I leave my kids and drive 90 minutes, claiming I’m trying to solve a crime but really to chauffeur you around for the next few hours. Also, I’m from the future.””
Post IWTB-Colonization Scully is gone. Mulder time-travels to med student Scully, using his intelligence, desperation, and dedication to try to get her to answer the only clue Scully left. The answer eludes them both; and they spend the rest of his vanishing evening looking at pics of their kids, the future world, and healing each other’s wounds. As time begins to refigure and resettle, Mulder realizes where Scully is, and rushes on diminishing time to get her back.
@lotsoforangesoutside’s Unnamed and Its Sequel
““Now, you two knuckleheads,” Bill turns toward the couple, “don’t tell me what Andy said has never crossed your mind. Will doesn’t look 15 and I bet a medical doctor and an Oxford graduate can come up with better cover stories than what you two have cooked up for us. I think you guys should run the new version by me before Dinner, yeah?”
The couple looks at each other as if they were in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Bill gives a light chuckle and shakes his head as he moseys his way out of the living room.””
Post IWTB-- Mulder and Scully have acquired a mysterious Jr. in addition to their younger son, William. Bill, for once, covers for them with timelines to other family members. The truth? Fox Jr. is William from the future, who traveled back, found his past self, and brought them both to their parents’ house.
Itero (formerly Humphreywrites’s fic)
““It is a remarkably small price to pay for a life that is full. A life that is so much happier than her lonely one with nothing but an empty apartment and lonely weekends. She was okay with that, but she hadn’t known what she was missing. She hadn’t known how dead she felt until every morning she woke up alive.””
FTF Scully wakes in a hospital in an alternate universe, the mother of three kids and happily married to Mulder. She quickly finds her footing, bonding with the kids and finding her new normal amidst failing grades, baby tears, and teenage angst. She wakes in a new timeline: 1993. And decides not to waste time.
It’s more Scully-contemplation than slice-of-life; and its maturity in tone sings.
allthistime’s i think i know you from somewhere
““So, when are you from? Tell me about the future!” Mulder said enthusiastically, practically bouncing up and down. Of course he’d barely be phased by a 54-year-old Scully waltzing into his office one Monday morning in 1993.
“Oh, I don’t think I should do that, Mulder. I do believe this is a dream or hallucination, but I don’t want to take any chances.”
He looked dejected for a moment before lighting up again.””
Revival Scully and ‘93 Scully swap places momentarily. Both Mulders are intrigued; and all parties have fun sharing POVs and fishing for details.
mrsagentspooky/agcntspooky‘s (also on dubitavero)
““Keeping his thoughts to himself and trying hard not to stare at the man who would have been - had been? would be? - his father, William nodded.
“I need to talk to you about an X-file, and… can you tell me the date?”
Although the last bit was told in a more sheepish tone (after all, who barges in in the middle of the night and asks for the date?), the whole sentence was scripted. Get his attention by mentioning the X-files straight away. Know where you stand by asking the date. He and Dana had been over it an thousand times.””
Time travel from Will’s POV. Will drops in on Mulder, asking for the date and camping out. Mulder is shocked and calls Scully over, who skeptically listens to Will’s explanation: Future Scully built a time machine to send him back for FBI files to prevent the destruction of the future.
These are EXCELLENTLY written in roleplay-format between two authors: they use little words to say a lot. Also, I love soaking in the atmosphere of this fic.
These stories are a bit scattered, so I’ll just leave the links below in order(?):

@ellivia’s Unnamed
““Whenever Mulder and Scully are in different time zones, he only refers to her as Past Scully or Future Scully.
“Oh that is so you. That is so Past Scully.””
IWTB-Revival Mulder likes to tease past-present-future Scully when she’s away on conferences. She finally kills him with sweetness overload.
This doesn’t exactly fit in the above criteria, but time-zones count... right?
Non-specific timeline AUs
@anders-hawke/@iwtbscully‘s Nine Minutes?
““He shook his head and let Scully buckle herself in as he shut the door and walked around to the driver’s side. “Scully, do you remember anything from those nine minutes? Anything real?”
Her giddy smile slipped from her face and she looked away from him into the unlit stretch of road ahead of them, marred only by Mulder’s X in the distance. “No. But I can prove to you that what I’m saying is true. The person who’s taking those people is Billy Miles. I saw a whole life in those nine minutes, Mulder. I lived a whole life. I made decisions and had thoughts and—and fell in love, had children… People died, too. People that I want to save. People that I have to save, knowing what I know.””
Revival Scully wakes from her death... to find herself losing nine minutes in the Pilot. She immediately gives Mulder the rundown, and watches as he processes all emotions at her revelations.
Julie Fortune’s The Ghost of You
““Mulder." Scully gloved up and reached out to take hold of the woman’s hand, lifting it by the thumb.
Hands did not move that way. Not like – empty sacks, the fingers bending like rubber, no stiffness to it at all.
Boneless. Scully lifted higher. The arm followed the hand, a piece of dead spaghetti.””
Mulder and Scully are unwittingly caught in a time loop: autopsying Future Scully’s pulverized body, zipping around to random moments in that day, and resetting the day completely. Some timelines are more successful than others, but all lead to their mutual abduction and her fatal fall.
I found this one courtesy of @mondfuchs-- so thank you!
Hestia01′s (Ao3) Time Lag
““It’s fine, what could happen?”
“I have a bad feeling about this, I don’t think you should.”
Scully wrests herself from her partner. “I just want a better look. It’s probably nothing.” She cleans her hands with a moist towelette, reaches in and picks up the stone.””
A magical museum stone shoots Scully into continual lifetimes-- forcing her to live them fully, die, and reset. When Mulder finally gets her back to the original, she has become depressed and suicidal.
Kristy Anderson’s The Fate of Time (2/2)
““When I woke up last night, all I could remember was our lives together on the X-Files, and I started aching for what I knew was lost from that. The companionship, the hard earned and well tested trust, the love built upon mutual respect and shared heartache. I ended up sitting down on the corner of 42nd and Broadway, just crying and missing us until the sun started rising. As the first rays of light began to shine, to bring life to the streets again, I finally allowed myself to remember the past three, almost four years together. It was as if the beginning of the new day was my new beginning.
"That's when I realized that if I gave this up, what we have now, I would miss this us even more.””
Mulder and Scully are sent to a reset timeline and live the ups and downs of kidnappings, promotions, opening their own X-Files division, and having Will earlier. It all crumbles when Scully dies from cancer, and they are sent back to their normal lives once again.
Rachel Anton’s Eleventh Hour
““I knew I had let her down. Again. And I vowed to make it up to her. Someday, somehow. One day I would have enough courage to let this thing happen, to let her give herself to me. One day I would have enough faith in myself, be a good enough person to trust myself with her.
I didn't even sense that something was wrong. I didn't even know.””
Mulder tracks down and brutally murders Scully’s killer. Due to insanity, he is placed in a mental hospital where a fellow patient asks him to volunteer as lab rat in a time-travel experiment. He’s shot back to the 80s and begins to track Scully down. ~Romance~ blooms somewhere down the line.
Gotta be honest, I DNF-ed this after Mulder agrees to the experiment; but will probably finish it later.
Honorable Mention: The Boy on the Beach by @cecilysass’s (Ao3, Gossamer). (I included her in one of the Mulder family compilations, so it felt like cheating to include her here, too.)
X-Files Collector’s Edition: Thanksgivings Are Better Twofold
Mulder and Scully have many a checkered collection in Thanksgiving fic land-- some unpleasant times with family drama always at the ready; but it never holds them down for long, and the memories are worth it.
This is truly a mixed collection-- some fics only a paragraph long, others taken from larger works or longer series-- but all are enjoyable in their own ways.
(**Edited: Added a few stories below I missed on my first go-through.**)
Loose chronological order below~
By Timeline
Dryad’s (Ao3) 2790 Vine St. (Ao3)
“"Wait just a minute, young man," she called. She turned him around, fussed with his jacket, rewrapped his striped wool scarf. "There we are. Now you look like a proper young man about to go to a Christmas party."
Fox grimaced and looked away from her too-bright eyes, her fixed smile....
How could they even consider going to a party when Samantha was only a month gone? And why did he have to pretend everything was okay?”
Young Mulder and his parents spend Thanksgiving at a neighbors, where polite society ignores the gaping hole left in their lives. He wanders, distantly connected to his environment, observing his parents’ mutual distances.
emmbright’s (Gossamer, LiveJournal) False Dawn
“Listen and repeat: "Je me suis perdu. Pouvez-vous m'aider, s'il vous plait?"
Mulder listens and haltingly repeats, struck by the meaning behind the words he mouths. Yes, he thinks, I am lost.”
Post 3 Mulder is so guilt-ridden that he accepts Tena’s “please”s to join her for Thanksgiving. On his way over he finds Scully’s French language tapes and listens to them emptily. His misery only continues with Maggie’s next call.
Juliettt’s
All I Want for Christmas
“Sometimes he would pick up the phone after hearing the caller identify him- or herself. Usually he did so when it was Margaret Scully on the other end of the line. Funny -- he would have thought she would be the one person with whom he would be afraid to speak, but it hadn't been like that at all. The Lone Gunmen tired him with their overly enthusiastic theories and vain attempts to cheer him. Mrs. Scully never tried to cheer him. She would call him when she felt particularly blue or had an idea he might be. She was usually right. And he would answer and sometimes they would just sit there listening to one another breathe because there was nothing to say.”
Pre-One Breath Mulder’s birthday wish-- for Scully’s return-- turns into a Thanksgiving wish turns into a Christmas wish as he dodges invites from Maggie and mires himself in guilt. A tombstone and a phone call end his cycle.
Lullaby
“If he found us awake he would sing old ballads to us. Melissa was usually asleep."
Mulder looked at her. "But you stayed awake," he said softly.
Scully nodded. "It was the one time I had him all to myself. I grew to miss that -- even years later when we had grown apart a little. Even after we fought about my joining the FBI. He couldn't understand -- I don't know if he ever really understood.
AU Post Anasazi 1-- Mulder’s return from NM is rolled into a Thanksgiving celebration (incidentally, Melissa never died so no drama.) He overhears Scully singing lullaby, and she relates how her dad used to sing it to her. Mulder later hears it himself, but decides not to mention it.
(BONUS! i.e., Part 2 of the above fic:)
Marriage- Lullaby For a New Generation
“No, Mulder showed his affections in rather more unique and creative ways. Up until a few months ago he had routinely accompanied her in to work for early morning autopsy calls just so she would not have to go alone, and then he would slip out and buy her an extra large mocha and a croissant to be consumed after she was finished. He'd make certain the car was always full of fuel when he knew she would need it. Or he would sneak home during lunch when he knew she was going to be in meetings or the lab all afternoon and put a pot of spaghetti sauce or a casserole on to cook so that when they arrived home, hungry and exhausted, there would be a hot meal waiting. And then, if she were especially tired, he would insist on doing all the dishes instead of simply drying them as he usually did, and maybe even run her a hot bath and leave her to soak the stress of the day away. And then, too, he gave a mean backrub. . . .
So what if he didn't give her flowers and candy and soft music? He gave her his love and respect and time and gratefully accepted the same from her.”
AU Post Anasazi 2-- Mulder is happily married to Scully, and loves to sneak Will from the FBI nursery to his office as much as he can. Scully overhears him singing her father’s lullaby; and stuns him with her belief when he relates his past experience.
httpspotter’s The Key to My Heart
““Would you hand me the key for a second? I forgot something.”
She did, a bit confused. Was he mad at something now and regretted giving her the key? But Mulder just wrote his name on a piece of paper, glued on the key with duct tape and gave back to her. “There you go.”
“Thank you” she said, softly.
Scully knew that gesture meant how much he trusted her. Mulder was trying to say it was okay for her to go without him at his apartment, to pick up a file of a case they were investigating, or anything else. If he wasn’t home, she could still go and wait for him there. It meant a lot of things, and definitely it wasn’t about the fish.”
Post One Breath Mulder is going to be out of town for a family Thanksgiving; and gives gives Scully a key to his apartment. She sees the motive under it all, and rewards his trust with mac and cheese.
@sunsoakd/agenderleadingplayer’s up (where the world won’t let us down)
“he notices how no one says thanksgiving, wonders if it's a nebraska thing. she still hasn't said anything and he's almost worried until she takes a sip of her cocoa and the whipped cream gives her a white mustache and he laughs, and so does she, and he reaches out with his napkin to wipe it off and underneath it all she's smiling.”
S2-5? Mulder and Scully spend Thanksgiving in a diner, thankful for each other.
@wexleresque/hllsteeth’s thankful
““No, uh, it’s not cold,” He says. Scully raises an eyebrow at him but goes back to eating, looking perfectly content and unbothered. Mulder squints at his plate as if it’s done something to offend him before taking an experimental bite of the stuffing, drizzled with gravy. This bite is as bad as the last, oversalted and overpeppered. He didn’t even know it was possible to add too much pepper to gravy until this very moment.”
Post Redux ii Scully is deeply embarrassed by her recovering sense of smell and inedible Thanksgiving meal. Mulder is supportive, and the two strike a deal.
@nowwhateinstein’s (Ao3) Don’t Know Much About History
“But no amount of complaining would change Mother Nature’s mind. She’d be spending Thanksgiving alone and away from her family this year.
A knock at the door startled her out of her melancholy thoughts. Perhaps it was her building super, come to tell her to expect power outages due to the storm. She padded over to the door in stockinged feet and opened it. She was surprised to see Mulder standing there. He held two paper grocery bags, each full to bursting.”
Gobble, gobble, Scully,” he said by way greeting, sidestepping his way into her apartment.”
After Post Modern Prometheus, Mulder joins Scully for Thanksgiving after her flight is snowed out and she is left behind in DC.
Pattie’s This is The Way Thanksgiving Should Be
“A kitchen full of women. Why was that always the case? Scully reached for a small dish of chopped parsley. "Mom, how much of this do you want in the potatoes?"
"All of it, honey. I measured it out." Margaret Scully smiled a knowing smiled at Tara.
"Navy wives, Dana! Remember how you grew up? So many things timed just right and organized as good as a ship?" Scully felt a longing for that sort of arrangement. A family routine. "Yeah. I do. It's been so long. But I do have my own routine down pat. Everything is to the letter as long as there are no surprises."
S5 Mulder pretends to have something better to do, but scoots over to the Scully Thanksgiving as a surprise.
@all-these-ghosts’s (Ao3) Thankful (Ao3)
““I don’t think my mom has the wrong impression about anything,” Scully says slowly, and he has absolutely no idea how he’s supposed to interpret that, no sir, and then she continues, “She set up the air mattress for you.”
“Right,” he says, and finally puts his bag down. “Thanks for letting me…”
Her eyes are almost soft. “Of course.””
S6 Mulder somehow gets slotted into the Scully Thanksgiving; and further didn’t expect his “Truth or Dare” to be answered honestly, if mildly.
@softnow’s (Ao3) thankful
“It has been twenty-five years since he celebrated Thanksgiving—really celebrated—and he’s never had one like this. There were so many people crammed into Maggie’s modest house, aunts and uncles and cousins he’d never even heard of. They hadn’t all fit at the dinner table; he’d eaten on the living room floor, styrofoam plate balanced on his knee, iced tea nearly knocked over more than once by one rambunctious kid or another.
He’d told Scully he was fine, she could sit at the table with her mother and brothers, but she’d refused to leave his side.”
It’s S6? Thanksgiving, and Mulder joins Scully for her giant family gathering. He’s surprised that she wants to eat with him on the floor, and even more surprised that she is happy to do so.
@baronessblixen’s (Ao3)
Be Brave - Chapter 1
““Mom, we work together.”
“So? He’s your friend, isn’t he?” Maggie wonders if Dana realizes that she’s scrubbed the same plate for over two minutes. It’s clean. Carefully she takes the dish from her.
“It’s just not something we talk about.” But she wants to. Dana thinks she’s hard to read, difficult to understand. Not for Maggie. She glances through the window and sees Mulder and Charlie laughing together. Even Bill looks peaceful.”
Maggie has decided enough is enough; and pushes Scully to make a move after their peaceful Thanksgiving dinner.
Unnamed Prompt 38
“This is exactly the kind of family gathering Mulder is used to. Yelled accusations. Past missteps. Oh yes, he knows this. Except it’s not his family. And no one, for once, is yelling at him. He’s outside on the porch, the sun trying to hide, too, disappearing quickly, going to sleep. Under him the wood creaks softly. No one but him hears it. They’re in the kitchen, Scully and her brother Bill. Mulder was in there with them moments ago. He doubts either of them even noticed when he slipped outside. Out here, their voices are muffled, but he can still hear them, word for word.”
Scully and Bill are at each other’s throats. Maggie finds Mulder disturbed outside; but convinces him to come in with pie after Scully drops the “boyfriend” word.
Rainy Thanksgiving Aren’t As Bad As They Seem
“He's sated, he's tired, but most of all, he's happy. There on the couch are Jackson and Katie, their two miracles, both pretending to watch TV, both struggling to stay awake. Mulder merely smiles at them and tiptoes out of the living room to find Scully in the kitchen drying the dishes.”
Post Revival-- It’s the first Thanksgiving as a knitted-together family; and Mulder and Scully soak it in as they miss Maggie and banter freely.
@lotsoforangesoutside’s (Ao3, Alt. Tumblr) The Turkey Special (Ao3)
“One corner of her mouth perks up as she recalls that Bill was absent from the dinner table today; her Mother gushed over Mulder for the majority of the meal and packed Tupperware after Tupperware of food for Mulder and her to enjoy later.
Somehow, her mother knows with firm convictions that they have plans to spend the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend together.”
Mulder had always been a bum at his friends’ Thanksgivings. He is moved to finally belong at someone’s-- Scully’s.
““That—that is a large bird,” He says, and she glances over at him, to see what he means. He points in his leather gloves to the display of frozen turkeys that are stacked precariously for Thanksgiving, which is only in a couple of days. Scully feels a slight fluttering in her belly that she dismisses immediately, but there is no quelling the thoughts that she would soon vocalize:
“It’s going to be our first Thanksgiving together as a couple,” Scully says, brushing her fringe out of her eye.”
Both Mulder and Scully have a near-miscommunication over Thanksgiving plans; but assure each other they do, indeed, want to celebrate together.
@msrpolaroidproject’s Thanksgiving with Mulder and Scully
““I had such a wonderful holiday, Mulder,” she murmurs, “Thank you.””
Scully had to skip out on Thanksgiving with her family to spend it with Mulder. It shocks him that grateful she is to do so.
@msrafterdark's (Ao3) home for thanksgiving
“Dana is... Dana’s different now. She seems a little firmer, a little more stoic, and he’s sure from what little she’s told him about her current line of work thta is HAS to have an effect on her. The last several years have thrown so much at this family...agruably her most of all.”
Charlies observes his sister; and is glad she is (finally) happy.
@jinjoint/Jintian’s Seven Days
““Maybe if you tell me what bothers you so much about visiting her.... Won't this be the first time you've seen each other since you were in the hospital?"
"Yes. But Scully, nothing bothers --" He stops. "Fine. Something bothers me. But I want to see how it goes before I say anything."
"I want to know how it goes, too, whatever it is," she says.
"I will tell you. Soon.””
Post Amor Fati Mulder is visiting his mother for a week. He calls Scully here and there to deal with Tena’s lack of warmth (and to mildly discuss their new relationship.) His worry for his paternity comes to a head over her birthday dinner, and leaves both with a fallout uncomfortable to both.
Blueswirl’s The Simplest Explanation
“She doesn't have to ask who he's talking about. She knew before the words even left his mouth. An ordinary boy, his sister gets abducted...
"If you want to look at it that way," she says, gently. "But we both know it's more complicated than that."
"Is it?" he wonders. "Maybe it's not. Maybe it's just that simple. And, just like with Weems, everyone who gets involved in his life becomes an integral part of his luck. It's just not much fun when it's all bad."
Post The Goldberg Variation, Scully finds Mulder in a dour mood over darker reflections on cause-and-effect and luck. She insists it doesn’t reflect back on his life; and struggles alongside him on a missing girl’s case. As the anniversary looms-- on Thanksgiving that year-- and the case has no conclusion, Mulder is able to answer some questions and find a measure of peace.
@atths--twice‘s (Ao3, Alt. Ao3, FFN)
Thanksgiving on the Run
““Hmm, yeah,” she hummed with a nod. “Though I think I would like to find a motel tonight. With a real bed? And a toilet we don’t have to drive to?”
“Yeah. I think we could do that,” he said with a smile, looking around and noticing the decorations adorning the walls. “Hey, Scully, is it… I think it might be Thanksgiving.”
She too looked around and then let out a deep sigh. “I think you might be right,” she said quietly....
On the run, Mulder and Scully pause their mobile living in time to catch Thanksgiving. This spills over in a beautiful visit to the botanical gardens.
A Thankful Morning
““What time did you say Skinner would be here?” she quietly called to him.
“Uh.. he said three, I think. He’s bringing everything and he seemed pretty excited about it,” he answered, as he poured water in the coffee pot. He added the coffee and turned it on, walking back toward the couch and sitting next to her.
“It was nice of him to offer a home cooked Thanksgiving meal. I was set on cereal and toast,” she said, looking at him again.”
Post Revival-- Mulder and Scully, proud parents of their daughter, are enjoying a nice Thanksgiving with the company of Skinner.
@agentwhalesong/sadandangstyagent’s (Ao3) The Past is the Past
“Bill saw him as soon as he entered the living room, the person who was the very reason why his sister had been away from home for so long. Mulder was helping Maggie with bringing food to the table, smiling and making her laugh as she ordered him around. He couldn’t believe how lenient his mother was with him, even after all the mess he had made not only in Dana’s life, but also in the lives of everyone else she had relations with. Maggie had been the one to suffer the most when she realized her daughter had simply vanished, leaving only a note in her wake that said she would be fine and that no one should go looking for her. Even if she didn’t say it, they all knew it was because of Mulder, so it didn’t make any sense to Bill that Maggie didn’t seem to hold any grudges against her daughter’s partner. Maybe she knew details about their story that Bill didn’t because, ultimately, he didn’t know a lot. He didn’t know anything, actually, if he was being honest.”
Post IWTB-- Bill is tired of picking fights, and finally, simply, OBSERVES.

““How do you feel?”
He stroked his thumbs over the skin above his eyebrows. “Hung over. Like I told you I would.”
“You hadn’t slept more than three hours a night for almost a week, Mulder,” she said. “You needed to take the pill.”
Who could sleep when there was less than a month until the end of the world? Mulder couldn’t stop the spinning, no matter how desperately he wanted to get off the ride, and they both struggled with how alternately listless and manic he’d become in the past six months.”
Post IWTB Mulder is on the brink of depression; but Scully dutifully cares for him with sleeping pills and funny, lively nephews.
“The dishes are stowed away, leftovers marinating in their own juices and seasonings for the days ahead. Mulder has plans for turkey stock and a cranberry granita.”
Mulder and Scully eat themselves into an over-stuffed stupor.

“Melissa smiled and placed her dish stack next to the sink. “Bill never changes, does he?”
Dana laughed a little and closed her eyes. No, he did not.
“I’m proud of you, Dana,” Melissa said. “Not everyone is brave enough to change careers. And beyond that, take a step off the beaten path and work in a department and with someone that others aren’t always fond of.”
“Mulder is a good partner,” she said, sensing her sister’s concern mixed in with her praise.
“I know he is,” Melissa said. “I can feel it.””
The Scully family’s full Thanksgivings slowly shrink as the years pass; but Scully still finds happiness as Mulder is added to her holiday.

Sukie Tawdry’s The Way Things Are (2/2)
““You and your partner spend a lot of taxpayer money on wild goose chases. How do your superiors justify that?" Bill Mulder asked, voice sharpened to a fine edge.
"We've solved some serious crimes, Mr. Mulder." Scully knew she should keep out a family dispute but she couldn't bear to hear her partner's work denigrated.
"So far, our superiors are satisfied with our progress, Dad." Scully detected an undercurrent of anguish beneath the calm determination in Mulder's tone. Her partner placed his fork on his plate, perhaps having lost his appetite.
Was this a typical Mulder meal? Tension hung in the air, as if a palpable presence. Teena Mulder kept conversation moving, undoubtedly as she'd been taught to do as a proper hostess.”
S1-- Mulder and Scully are in a committed relationship in consequence to a surprise pregnancy. They are happy, TLG are happy, her family is happy-- but Mulder’s job continues to brutalize him in his quest for answers, and his parents remain cold and indifferent. Scully sympathy and dry wit helps patch him back together and soldier on. And all ends happily (and hilariously) throughout. Thanksgiving is the big climax of the fic, so it counts!
Love this fic, and constantly return to it (while skipping part 1 entirely-- but that’s my preference.) Mount St. Scully is a downright hilarious terror.

“She’s cold and annoyed and shoeless and she is alive, alive, alive.
She balances on one foot on the log, still holding one of Mulder’s hands. “Well,” she says, her voice soft and even, “that settles it. I’m going to have to kill you.”
The snow is coming down harder around them. Mulder wipes his eyes, and she resists the urge to stomp her sock foot at him.
“I’m sorry.” He is not. “I’ll buy you new boots.” He’ll do no such thing. “Come here.” Because that went so well last time.”
Scully is recovered from her cancer, and is happy to spend Thanksgiving on the road with Mulder, “slotting into place.” But she immediately stops him from pedestalizing her recovery; and makes moves to seal the deal.

“The last idea makes her stomach clench ominously, bringing to mind fears she’s been holding back. What if a baby does come between them, just as he worried? What if he feels trapped by the prospect of being the actual parent of a child? Kept from the work he’s always made clear is his top priority? What if she will eventually have to set him free to raise this child on her own?
She subtly tilts her head to look at her partner, watching goofy dancing reindeer on TV. His eyes are bright and amused by the spectacle. He looks like a boy himself.”
IVF timeline-- Scully gets the stomach flu two days after transfer, and skip her family’s meal to watch the Macy’s Parade with Mulder. Scully spends all day worrying too much about burdening Mulder with obligation; Mulder, meanwhile, is being hit the reality of a possible successful transfer. His worry for both their health stuns Scully, finally and opens a conversation between them.
How to Eat Holiday Meals With Co-Workers - Chapter 4 (Ao3)
““Mulder.” His voice sounds broken, like an old man’s.
It’s Lionel speaking. Lionel of Lionel and Reyna, who live in the farm house adjacent to their property. Lionel and Reyna, their nearest neighbors. Lionel and Reyna, his nearest neighbors.
Lionel seems to be asking him to dinner tomorrow. Turkey, stuffing, cranberries, pumpkin pie.”
Mulder is depressed, alone, after his breakup. Scully won’t call, and he knows she won’t answer his calls. He tries to preserve the last ounce of dignity he has left while avoiding his neighbor’s pity invite to a Thanksgiving meal.
How to Eat Holiday Meals With Co-Workers - Chapter 5 (Ao3)
““What if Mick sees ghosts?”
In tandem they both turn back again to watch their small daughter. She has a stick and a leaf in each hand, and she is gesturing with them, making some kind of point to a group of unseen people.
“She could be surrounded by ghosts, Scully,” whispers Mulder. “So many ghosts.
“Oh Mulder, she thinks, turning back towards him and reaching out with her fingertips to trace his face. She’s not the only one.”
Mulder and Scully and their daughter Mick-- the nickname sticking until it wore Scully down-- are enjoying a peacefully reclusive Thanksgiving in their new home on the Vineyard until he sees her talking to imaginary friends and deduces they’re ghosts. When Mick says one of them is named Samantha, Scully has to pull him aside to prevent him from losing it.

“Mulder bites his lip. “Maybe. Tell you what, though, your brother had us figured out.” At Thanksgiving, he had liked Charlie well enough, but he’s been a little—perplexed, since. Married with kids, but not bringing them for the holiday. Showed up for his father’s burial, but not for Melissa’s. Not when Scully lay dying. Still. “I didn’t know you were so close.”
She shrugs. “Just… younger sibling solidarity.”
“Yeah?” he says, thinks, absolutely not . ... “Scully, let me see you. Tell me about Charlie.”
It is minutes before she draws back far enough for eye contact.”
Early S7 IVF timeline-- It’s the Per Manum arc and a new relationship and Thanksgiving all rolled into one. Mulder is wrapped up in silent hopes and dreams before the transfer; but once the holiday is over and the process started, his questions about her family help elucidate his own role to Scully and their future to himself.

“I glared at Mulder until he reluctantly looked my way, and then shrugged and offered up a lame, "What?"
"Is this where you tell us Dana has developed some sort of eating disorder, or something?" I asked, ready to nail him with the blame the moment the words came out of his mouth. He drove her crazy, that much was clear. She easily could have developed all kinds of psychological disorders because of her associations with this guy.
"She's not feeling well," he said slowly, carefully. There was no way I could miss the extra flexing he did with his jaw. Interesting.”
S7 IVF timeline-- Bill loved both his sisters; but as the years roll on, he found he could no longer understand them. After a huge uproar at Thanksgiving over Scully’s health, he finds out how much he truly didn’t know.
JET’s (Gossamer, mulderscreek) Small Lives Awake
““Scully," he said the night before. He was turning a tea saucer over and over in his hands. "Really, it's too much trouble. I'm sure your brother didn't plan for extra company."
"Nonsense. They as much as invited you anyway when they called a month ago."
She wrung out the rag and the wire scour while soapy water glugged down the drain.
He finished putting the pans in the drawer beneath the oven and sat down at his kitchen table.
"It's one week. You need to get away, see your family."
"You're my family too," she said in a rushed breath, as though they were arguing.
He seemed slightly startled.”
S7-- Scully and Mulder aren’t dating (yet), but she wants him to come with her to Charlie’s. There she rediscovers pieces of herself, and even finds a little X-File for her and Mulder to preoccupy themselves with on their breaks from nephew chaos and migraines from the haunted curiosity shop. All is well, and moves are made.

“I was happy to do anything they asked. I wanted and needed to see my sister. She's the closest thing to Mom I have right now, and I miss Mom desperately. I miss her phone calls and her visits and her advice on child rearing. I miss her care packages and long letters. I miss everything about her, even her curt responses to my snide remarks about Mulder.
Of course, I'm not angry at Mulder anymore. Just at the FBI. The military, too, I guess. They were in cahoots against him, permitting some hastily organized kangaroo court to sentence him to death.”
A piece from a larger S9 AU-- Bill and his family reunite with Scully and Mulder for Thanksgiving. Both Scullys bond over the painful ache of their mother’s absence (she is in hiding with William), and even manage to bridge some gaps between Bill and Mulder.
This is such a cool series-- it works up to Bill reuniting with Scully, beach-blonde Mulder, Scully’s new research job to (hopefully) work on a vaccine with the risk of getting caught, and deep emotional connections between all the characters.

“Will fussed on the way to grandma's house but at least he wasn't screaming like he had been 12 hours earlier.
"You okay Scully?" Mulder asks as he adjusts the rear view mirror so he can see her face.
"Yeah, I'm fine Mulder but you must be dead on your feet. You walked the floor most of the night."
"It's part of the job Scully and besides I don't take much sleep."
Post Existence Mulder, Scully, and Will are sleep-deprived and battling the baby’s infection; but Thanksgiving awaits, and it’s not too bad after all.
A 40 Day in the Life
““My foot is getting better," Scully tells her son as she usually does at least four times a day but she shows him her foot anyway. It's still swollen and slightly purple but it does look much better than it did one week ago. William seems satisfied and takes off out the bedroom door and down the stairs.
Next to annoy Scully is Mulder. He comes in carrying their daughter. Scully does admit he has the baby dressed cute. She has on her black Mary Jane's with white socks and a blue velvet dress trimmed in white lace and somehow Mulder has been able to gather up enough of her 'brother cut' hair to put a barrette on top of her head. "You sure you feel like going, Scully? I mean if you're tired we can stay home," Mulder says trying to weasel out of this Scully tradition, 'Thanksgiving dinner at moms'.”
Mulder and Scully have (currently) two children, a busy career, and many, many close calls. Having recently recovered from flesh-eating disease on a case, Scully just wants a relaxing Thanksgiving without Bill ribbing her or any kiddo meltdowns. She gets neither.

“She thought about his comment regarding not remembering Maggie and nudged him in the side with her elbow. “You were a baby. Despite whatever circumstances that might have occurred to allow you to recall things from back then, it’s okay that you don’t remember her, let alone anything else from before,” she said, watching the way he tapped a finger against his leg, still staring at the floor rather than at her. “And Will?” she said, drawing in a deep breath, wanting what she said next to sink in. “It’s okay if you’re not okay today. I know that we...haven’t talked about it much, and I didn’t know if you really wanted to, but if you did, that would be okay.”
William shook his head, darting his tongue out to moisten his parched lips. They had talked about his life in Wyoming some, but it was always such a tricky situation. What had happened with his adoptive parents was his own experience, but given the lengths Scully had gone through to keep him safe, he felt a connection with her he wasn’t completely sure he understood.”
AU My Struggle 2-- This is the last part in a longer series (1/ 2/ 3/)-- Will has been settled with Mulder and Scully in the aftermath of the world being saved from the deadly virus that, unfortunately, killed Will’s parents. In The Original Series, the fics happen within the same universe, but they’re completely fine to read as standalone stories.
There are stories in season 8 and 9 !!
They’re also grouped by season this time.
Emily Universe is where Emily lives, is adopted by Scully, who later marries Mulder and have a son named Wiley.
Jacksons Universe is where Jackson VDK travels back in time and delivers his 7-year-old self to Mulder and Scully. Jackson ends up staying with his birth parents. As a result, Mulder and Scully have two sons who are 11 years apart: William and Fox Jr.
Cricket Universe is set after the revival. They are stories about the lives of Mulder, Scully, William, Kuiper aka Cricket, and William’s best friend/girlfriend Michiko “Millie” Leixia.
Divergence series is when...the story goes into another...possibility.
So, here we go & thanks so much for reading.
