So, it's been a bit of a crazy month. I was laid off after Pencilmation was no longer able to financially support a production pipeline, back at the start of December 2021, and I'd been unemployed since. Starting March 21, I began my first TV animation industry gig... only for an exec to put the entire production on hold AT THE END OF MY FIRST WEEK. I was still paid for two weeks' worth of work, but basically I was completely depending on this job to support me. And, because I've basically only been considered self-employed for these remote animation jobs, I'm not eligible for unemployment benefits. SO, we've got that whole deal going on...
Then, I listed my 2002 Accord on Facebook Marketplace... only to get scammed into selling it to some guy who only bought it with the intention of faking a breakdown on the highway so he could steal the catalytic converter and resell it. (Also he "can't find" the second set of keys I gave him, so we're keeping the car somewhere it'd be hard to find... and taking the battery out just in case. Also we're trying to find some way to bust him for this and make sure no one else has to experience what I did.) The Accord is under my possession and titled under my name again, and I just got it back from the shop where they both installed a new catalytic converter and fixed another unrelated, long-term issue that needed attention... but that put me out about $1,500.
Soooo the money situation is starting to look pretty grim. It hasn't been the worst case scenario, but it's still a pretty horrible case. I lost a job I'd been depending on for months... after 1 week, thanks to one of the execs... and I was cheated out of a car sale and a catalytic converter. I don't like to beg for money, but... of course, I do provide a service! And obviously I'll be looking for something with steady income again in the meantime. But until then, I could definitely use something to hold me over and I'd be glad to work on some high-quality commissions.
