 Hammond Report August 13 2021 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Daily Music and Stories from the organ player and accordionist Jon Hammond - today's music story with remarkable live recording from inside the legendary Wychmere Harbor Club with the Lou Colombo Band, which I was the house organist on 1976 - 1978 - this recording is from 1976 and I made it on my Nakamichi 550 field recorder right on the bandstand - you'll hear us just as it sounded back then and some stories - also some footage of one of my visits to Curly's Auto Salvage yard North of Cheyenne Wyoming - only American Junk in Curly's, Curly told me the first time I met him! I visited Louie a few years ago in Fort Myers FL where he played in his daughter's restaurant, and sadly just a few days later Lou was killed driving home from his gig there - RIP Lou Colombo! Frank Shea on the band here playing drums, yours truly at the Hammond B3 organ - my intro is my theme song Late Rent from my radio program HammondCast which ran for 4 years daily on CBS KYOU and KYCY 1550 AM. As a young man, Colombo was signed to a contract by the Brooklyn Dodgers and played in their minor league system until a broken ankle ended his baseball career. He then turned his attention full-time to music.

Colombo leaves his wife Noel and six children.

Trumpeter Lou Colombo dies in Florida crash: Well-known on Cape for swinging jazz style 

Lou Colombo, known for his swinging jazz trumpet technique and as a consummate showman, died Saturday night, March 3 in a car crash in Fort Myers, Fla. while returning home from a performance.

long-time Speaker of The House, Tip was a member of the club and lived nearby. I played his Daughter Susan O'Neill's wedding, we had Secret Service all over the place - Tip always arrived with his Wife and entourage, some of the Kennedy Clan and his main man always by his side was in a wheelchair, I never found out the man's name (maybe someone out there knows?) - very clean B3 + Leslie I played there nightly - another long-time member of Wychmere Harbor Club I played for very often was Lee Berk founder of

Berklee College of Music

, Lee was always real nice to the band, as was Tip! Enjoy this precious audio recording and story folks - very sadly / tragically Lou Colombo was killed just a few days after I went to visit him in Fort Myers FL as he was driving home from his gig at his Daughter's restaurant The Roadhouse - by a 17 year-old driver in a Jeep Wrangler - keep the Spirit folks, and be super careful and safe out there - remember to mask-up during this pandemic,
