ENTERTAINMENT IS ETERNAL: A DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO CLAIRE’S HAPHAZARDLY GLUED TOGETHER TWD VERSE.
the basics(TM)
radio, and some forms of rudimentary television still exist in some compounds, encampments, and settlements. media survives on that just as much as they survive upon mass hysteria, for they are what they are and media is the mass media. media is mass hysteria itself.
media, our ever sunny, funny, oh-so-dandy entity runs ‘station 107.6 FM: post-modern radio in a post-apocalyptic world’. try and tune in: the range is, inexplicably, nation wide. all requests must be sent in by either radio or smoke signal. playing everything from the oldies, new wave, synth pop and country to get you (and what’s left of your friends) through a walker-filled week. no commercial breaks, no pesky advertisements! just an hour straight of music curated by none other than the enigmatic host: marilyn gumm-hays, who has a penchant for broadcasting extremely strange weather forecasts, historical musings, and if you’re lucky enough to have a radio on you: walker warnings and sightings.
media has taken over what’s left of a small radio station within the monongahela national forest. it’s a quaint little place; deadly quiet. media’s broadcast is 24/7; they never stop broadcasting.
extra little tidbits:
media is extremely helpful to have around, should they so choose to communicate. humans are, after all, in short supply. talk to the radio, and they will answer back.
extremely handy to have around in a pinch if you’re determined enough to meet the mysterious host. there’s been no downgrade to flesh again, so walkers ignore what doesn’t smell delicious.
media - or rather, marilyn - is known for their incredibly uncanny celebrity voice impersonations. tee hee.
media carefully keeps track of the date and informs listeners on the hour how many days, weeks, months, and years it has been since the apocalypse happened, and gives them a current date and time.
their weapon of choice is an axe with ‘the network’ burned into it. yes, they think it’s hilarious. yes, their aim is deadly.
while they can hear what’s going on, they cannot see through the radio. if a settlement has any form of working television, though... it’s fair game from media. they’re able to hijack any form of television or radio in order to listen in and, well, watch what’s happening.
