Idk if you can see this but it's 1dhistorian's story and she's talking about louis' cover of foo fighter's hero (chefs kiss btw absolutely insane idk why this wasn't selected as the main cover. I don't think the whole cover is available yet but god i want it bad). And she just gave an interesting perspective on why louis chose the song. Just thought to share it w u and get your thoughts
"The lead singer of Foo Fighters Dave Grohl was the drummer of the band Nirvana, right? Kurt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana, famously passed after a battle with addiction and the loss THUNDERED across the music world. Dave has discussed that this song was inspired by self-reflection he did following Kurt's loss, when "the whole idea of hero Worship or idolatry warped into something I thought was strange. You take a human being and you turn them into a deity. It's really bizarre… my perception of a hero kind of changed. If you listen to the lyrics to the song, it's all about an ordinary hero. Just a regular person."
We were MASSIVELY into Foo Fighters and Nirvana in my house growing up, and I thought about the parallels immediately when I watched Louis sing this. Because I wondered if him choosing to sing it was born of a similar reflective urge as the one that caused Dave to write it.
Being a celebrity and losing a real-life friend, watching the entire world who hero worships your friend mourn them in a way that turns them into a god of sorts, and trying to reconcile that to you they were an ordinary person but still a hero of sorts? Or else being frustrated that people put your friend or even you on this pedestal when you believe they should be doing that to other people who 'deserve it more'?"
Oh… that’s so painful. He sounded amazing on that cover. I wish that’s what he’d chosen for Live Lounge. I think he would have gotten an enormous reaction.

was finally able to listen to Louis’ cover of My Hero and WOW — instant goosebumps. what a powerful and beautiful rendition of the song.
i love love LOVE it. Louis is SO GOOD with an acoustic set; every single fucking time.
his voice has that perfect edge of raspy and soft that he can play with… that (imo) best comes through when you can hear every tiny fraction of it.
and when he belts 😮💨
The hero cover was so gorgeous!
It’s so good. The message of the song is relevant… in the shared context of losing a bandmates too soon.

Heroes are a funny thing. When I was young, I had Kiss posters, and I listened to Rush, and thought The Beatles were magicians. But the real heroes in my life were people that I was close to. Pete Stahl, who was the singer of Scream, was one. I was 17-years-old when we hit the road, and that guy showed me the ropes. So to me, he was a hero. And family members… my mom’s a saint. She raised two kids with no money, and we managed to be a happy family, so she seems like a hero to me. After Kurt died, the whole idea of hero worship or idolatry warped into something I thought was strange. You take a human being and you turn them into a deity. It’s really bizarre. I remember I was driving around Ireland when I was trying to get away from that whole fiasco after Kurt died. I was in the middle of nowhere, and it was beautiful. But then I was driving down a country road, and I saw a hitch hiker with a Kurt Cobain t-shirt on. So my perception of a hero kind of changed. If you listen to the lyrics to the song, it’s all about an ordinary hero. Just a regular person.
In the context of the songs he performed at Sirius XM: Lemonade, Lucky Again, My Hero, Palaces, Louis tells a story of appreciating the bittersweet aspects of life, the way it can turn from real to surreal in an instant because of the burdens of fame, and the fact that the most “real” thing is a sense of identity.
