Louis hated his life, which consisted only of death and destruction. Despite the lives he had saved and continued to save, a part of him couldn't feel satisfied. He had been the one who gave up a normal life and although he knew what was to come, the loneliness had never left him in all these years, not even for a second. He felt it in his heart every time he approached a target, he felt it in the few minutes before falling asleep in his dingy car or while he allowed himself a few hours of sleep before setting off again, and he felt it every time he closed that door behind him.

Summary

Louis is a YouTuber who tells true crime stories, driven by a desire to spread awareness of the horrors happening in the world. Harry, always cynical and annoying to everyone around him, is a detective assigned a case that forces him, against his will, to deal with a person he deeply despises.

As their worlds inevitably collide, both are forced to confront themselves and the other person. And neither of them ever thought that something as frightening as what they both have to deal with would end up being the best thing they could find, between the purring of a kitten and the shared warmth under a blanket.

Summary

Louis had always felt he was different, but he had never understood why.

At least until one particular event devasted hum, turning his life upside down forever and bringing to the surface a past he didn't know, a present he thought he knew, and a series of unexpected events that will trigger the beginning of a future he's not sure he wants to live.

“You don't have permission to be here, let alone to look at confidential files,” he said, roughly snatching the file he still had in his hands and abruptly closing it, then doing the same with the others still open on the desk.

“I work here,” Louis snapped indignantly, standing up and facing him.

“Are you a cop? Show me your badge or permission,” the detective retorted impassively, raising an eyebrow.

“What? Look, mate, you just got here, so I forgive you for not knowing, but-”

“Mate?” the detective retorted, sliding a hand to touch the badge as if to emphasize his position. “Show me the permit or I'll arrest you.”

Louis gaped at him, because what alternate universe had he just been thrown into? He wasn't just threatening, he really was going to arrest him.

Louis hated him.
