Little Gifts
Living overseas can change your perspective on love. We just celebrated Valentine’s day and here it’s not so much about the romance of things. It’s more about the love from friend to friend, student to teacher, and teacher to student. There are piles of fabric roses and some real ones too. Sometimes there are little gifts of perfume or chocolate or a homemade card. Lots of hugs are given, an much dancing is done. Everyone is decked out in pink or red and are celebrating another chance to share how much they care for the people in their lives (as well as getting a day off from the hum-drum of classes). It’s a whirlwind of affection that has very little to do with romance.
