At Fluffer HQ we’re all well excited about this weekend, as we’ve got The Wytches headlining not just one, but two pit parties! We’ve still got a few tickets left for tomorrow’s pit, where support comes from Fluffer’s own Virgin Kids, as well as The Hungry Ghosts and Phobophobes, while Saturday’s pit with support from Love Buzzard, The Bodies and Vulgarians is sold out.

Above we’ve put together a playlist with all the bands and artist we’ve got playing this weekend. For those of you joining the party, play it loud and get yer dancing shoes ready. As for the rest of you? Play it louder so no one can hear you weeping thinking of the fun you’ll be missing out on.

PLAGUE VENDOR INTERVIEW

Plague Vendor’s one of our new favourite bands, even more so at their kick ass performance at our SXSW Pit Party. As of today, they’re embarking on a 12 date UK tour with Fluffers own Love Buzzard - starting at The Owl Sanctuary in Norwich - so we figured we’d catch up with the guys before the two bands leaves the UK covered in blood, sweat, tears and with beepin’ ears. Lock up your daughters, sisters and wives - this’ll get messy.



So, can you guys give us the low down, kind of like a ‘Plague Vendor for Dummies’? Who are you, where did you come from?
 Jay: We got together in 2009, we all went to high school together. Myself, Brandon and our drummer Luke were gonna start a blues band with just guitar, drums and vocals, but then we decided that we needed a bass player. 
How did you end up with the name Plague Vendor?
 Brandon: There was this book of Mexican folk tales that I had called ‘Plaque Vendor tricks the Devil’ or something like that, and I misread it for Plague Vendor.



You were together for quite some time before releasing your first album, 2014’s ‘Free to Eat’, were you just waiting for the right time? 
Brandon: Originally we released it independently on our Tumblr.
 Jay: Yeah we put it out for free, which is why we ended up calling it ‘Free to Eat’. We had a lot of time to write this new one. Your newest album ‘Bloodsweat’ is quite different from your ‘Free to Eat’, not just in terms of sound, but also the fact that your songs are a lot longer, with ‘Free to Eat’ being a mere 20 minutes long, was that a conscious decision? 
Brandon: We didn't really talk about making those changes, we kind of just did it.
 Jay: For me I wanted the songs to be written out a bit better, I don't want to say ‘pop-structure’, but you know, melodic, maybe?



With longer songs comes a longer set, and you guys are known for some pretty intense and energetic live performances, does it get hard to keep up? 
Brandon: We’ve managed to keep up. There are times where I’ve been sick or down, but you always want to play a good and energetic show.
 Jay:Our whole day leads up to playing that one show. Brandon: Yeah, I imagine it’s how skydiving feels like - the tension right before you jump, and then all of sudden you’re just out there in the middle of it, then when you land, you’re a bit like ‘now what?’.

How did you come up with the name ‘Bloodsweat’? Is that almost like a description of the process behind it? 
Brandon: The album’s kind of shaped by the desert and we could picture the blood and sweat in some of the songs. There’s a lot of Gatorade commercials where you see athletes sweat Gatorade, and imagine if you were up on stage sweating blood, kicking so much ass that the sweat dripping from you turns into blood. I just really liked the thought of that which is why the album turned into Bloodsweat.



I tend not to ask about artists influences as that makes it easy to compare or label them - but one of Lemmy’s main influences was Little Richard - do you guys have anyone that sounds completely different to you that but that still inspires you? 
Jay: We all listen to a lot of electronic music, I really like Underworld.
 Brandon: I really like hip hop and I’ve listened a lot to Ghostface, I really like his stories and the beats, it almost reminds me of Tarantino soundtracks, so I can just get lost in them and actually fall asleep to it as I find it really relaxing

. You said you were originally meant to start a blues band, are you big blues fans?
 Jay: I like blues, but not as much as Brandon.
 Brandon: I like it A LOT - I like the simplicity and vulnerability of it and the creativeness and the storytelling. If I got locked up I could just sing the blues and make a whole blues album while in jail, just clapping and singing. It’s comforting to know that it’ll always be there.


You played one of our pit parties at this years SXSW festival, what do you think about the whole concept ‘no stage, band in the middle, crowd 360’ - did you enjoy it? 
Brandon: Yeah that was a really good show, and some of our first shows were actually like that! Jay: Yeah we did shows where they had a stage and we’d just be like, ‘you know, fuck it, fuck the stage, let’s just play on the floor!’ it’s a lot more fun that way!

After plundering the underground live scene round the UK for the past 18 months and supporting the likes of Slaves, Cerebral Ballzy and God Damn, Leeds / Guildford based duo Love Buzzard are about to launch their debut album, ‘Antifistamines’ through the cult London based record label 1234 Records (The Buzzcocks / Babyshambles).

The video for ‘Cash’ which has just been unveiled features wicked neon bright coloured sickly animations mashed over footage of the duo. As the track grinds, perplexes and hits hard with fuzzy thrash riffs and obscure chanting, the leather clad pair rampage through streets firing precious cash from super soakers, morphing passers by into gritty cartoon characters also.

The album is a mixture of genre defying psychgaragepunk. Raw, feral, addictive and more aggressive than everything that has stood before it.
