As a citizen of the great city of Chicago, I find it impossible to root against the White Sox. The White Sox organization has been much more consistent, in my lifetime at least, at putting a winning ballclub on the field.

E-Day 17: On Head-Long Collisions

In dancing days of old

crash class we crashed

on Broadway. You were raging drunk and unaware the city was collapsing

all around you.

We were slated to be thrown into the river, a death worthy

of glory days gangster films;

we had been witness to a massacre

your mother's was the most

brutal. And we pulled ourselves

out of the wreck

raging drunk and orphaned in a city

collapsing under heaven's weight.

The stars still look beautiful from grimy rooftops.

Do you remember when your mother took us

up there, raging drunk and gorgeous

and sang us songs from dancing days...

Lovers' days when the city was

a tall glass of iron wine

and we tasted it without fear

of blowing up or burning out or

crashing.
