Women's March on Lansing!
Note to self:
You always second guess getting the aricha at Stange Matter. Don’t. It is the taste you are looking for when you crave a visit to SM.
Yesterday was such a beautiful evening for a Lansing River Trail bike and brew. We enjoyed some great time out on patios, tasty beers, and yummy food!
Party by Bike!
Lansing Bike Party – miles of smiles. Last night was the first time I’ve joined them for a midweek ride. Super glad I did. Bikes, beer, music…who could ask for more? It felt a little like having a four hour vacation. Sunny but not too warm made for a perfectly lovely ride. So many styles of bikes and personalities in the LBP. Nice to have a chance to chat it up with faces growing familiar as the season progresses. Matt, Nick, and Ben, thanks for making me continue to feel welcome and increasingly comfortable riding with and round others. We had a group of about 15 riders in total. I did a little riding in all spots, front, middle and back. I mostly hung in the back, but purposefully mixed it up to work on being more comfortable in the middle. With this smaller group of riders, it didn’t feel too claustrophobic. It still did, but was manageable…well, kind of. It is something I would like to work on, but not a big priority right now. I imagine I’ll just stick to the front or back of the pack for the rest of this season. :) I think the next stretching myself exercise will be taking my ukulele on a ride and playing in front of select other people. Now that will be a challenge! Also discovering that if you ride with groups of cyclists regularly, you have to learn to be good with pictures that feature your backside being posted on social media. Ha!
We rode from the Lansing City Market out to Eagle Monk Brewery – my first time visiting this charming establishment. Live music, a folk style old timey string band I didn’t catch the name of, was a nice chance to tap toes and hum along (even if they blew off my request though it was in their repertoire because it wasn’t on their set list for the night. Sigh. Oh well…let’s get back to the story...). The Belgian Wit was tasty and refreshing, perfect balance of light citrus hoppy goodness. The line to order was long and food service was slow because they were so busy, and it was rumored to be worth the wait, but it gave a nice chance to visit for a bit and enjoy the music. I am going to have to find someone to split a pizza with next time though because, wow, did they look and smell fantastic. The hummous I went with was pretty straight forward, but really nice to have it offered on a tavern menu while out for a bike ride. Thanks in part to a train that came to a full stop at the Mt. Hope crossing, we took a longer meandering route back to the start with lights and laughter. Many thanks to Dave, Tim and Hiromi for accompanying me on the trail back to campus. One of the best bike moments of the night though was when I was left to my own devices to sprint on the bike lanes through campus and East Lansing neighborhoods back home. Fast fast!

The Lansing Bike Party brings miles of smiles. I rode with the LBP Friday night, my first ride with the ‘club’ for the year. I wasn’t sure who would be there but had made up my mind to go just the same. We met up at the Peanut Barrel in East Lansing. I was the one of the first to arrive - guess I was anxious to get going! I got to chat with one of the ride’s planners while we waited: a fellow musician who, like me, seems a little socially awkward and not a big fan of small talk. So we talked about the important stuff: music and gear. :) Setting off, we took a scenic route down to the Avenue Cafe, picked up the bulk of the evening’s riders, and continued our sort of haphazard route to end with a hilltop picnic and social scene. Along the ride I met some wonderful people, shared some grand conversation, thrilled in the joy and camaraderie of the ride, and made some new friends and potential riding partners. It really was a lovely evening well spent. And not a ghost in sight.
