Ooc: yo yo yo, how's it hanging? Anyways, y'know that Au that I made barely a week ago that I was totally planning to illustrate fully?

Fuck it. I'm going to write it all.

Shadow, a sleek black hedgehog with distinct red stripes along his limbs and spines, had somehow found himself working at a bar as a bartender. He didn't complain though, despite it never being busy shadow earned himself a promising chunk of cheese for this job that required merely customer service and how to clean vomit-bleached booths that the drunkies had marked in their woozy state.

Everything had been going fine that day as it was nearing December, when all of the young adults would swing by to grab a drink or two for the holiday season. So he knew that his pay would increase and maybe allow him his own break for this wintery white time of year.

Although having nobody to spend it with other than Rouge, Omega, and himself.

Shadow's ears perked up to the sound of the bar door opening and closing with the faint ring of a bell being hushed by the wild winter wind coming from just outside the establishment.

In he came, with no winter clothing whatsoever and soaked from head to toe in currently melting snow. "What can I get for you?" The hybrid asked the curious blue hedgehog, who whipped his head around to look at shadow.

The blue hedgehog approached the bar stool with caution at the stranger's question before sitting down, a slight look of discomfort from the cold seat. "Just a water should be fine..." He finally answered.

Shadow raised an eyebrow at the request but soon shrugging it off and fulfilling the blue one's wish, sliding the glass over to him. The soaked hedgehog ran a hand through his quills and extended his arm towards Shadow for a hand shake, introducing himself with a "hey... Um.. b-by the way, I'm Sonic. Sonic the hedgehog." The darker hedgehog stared at the extended hand for a bit before completing the gesture.

"Shadow." He responded, as blunt as possible.

Shadow went back to making other customer's orders before glancing back at sonic, who was sipping his water at a turtle's pace. "So," Shadow began, glancing at Sonic again, "not very often someone comes into a bar asking for water." Shadow looked at him, expecting an answer for his odd behavior.

"Oh- uhh... Yeah, to be honest I'm not too big of a drinker. Alcohol tastes like barf." Sonic caught himself and raised his hands defensively. "N-no offense though, you being a bartender and all, you must love drinking."

Shadow sighed, although seemingly a cover up for a laugh. "Do you always assume this much?" Sonic averted his gaze and tensed a bit, sipping his water again. Shadow spoke again, returning to his work to busy his hands. "Actually, I'm not too fond of alcohol. Although making it and experimenting with flavors is entertaining in itself, alcohol typically does taste like... 'barf'."

Shadow smiled, amused at his own comment and glanced at sonic once again who had laughed softly at the slight mocking tone.

Shadow was called over by a customer needing a refill and went to tend to him, leaving sonic to trace the rim of the glass and stare at the reflection in the water.

With a smile.

Also fuck you, I changed the title of the AU because I am biggest brain ever.

The next few weeks had rolled by of shadow perking up to the sound of the door's bell only to be greeted by Sonic, coming in so regularly that he had developed a favorite seat.

Shadow was a little overstimulated from the customers though, piling in, every seat was filled. He was working on overdrive, serving four different drinks at a time, he barely glanced at sonic as he entered. Returning to his service shortly after.

Sonic sat in this favorite chair at the very end of the bar where he could sit in peace without disruption, even on a busy day like this.

He had sat down and was scrolling on his phone until he heard a soft thud in front of him, he peeked over and right in front of him was a tiny glass filled with an alcoholic liquid of Sonic's unknowing.

Shadow must've placed it in his seat unintentionally, being so distracted with all of the customers and all.

Sonic looked around a bit before raising the glass to his nose and getting a slight whiff of the alcoholic stench that he disliked so much, the smell made him shiver but the curiosity within him overpowered as he took a sip, smacking his lips softly to get a full flavor out of it.

And to his surprise, he liked it!

Sonic stared at the glass with a newfound wonder, slowly finishing off the rest in the corner until shadow was free.

After some time Shadow wiped his brow with the back of his hand, finally reaching a reasonable lot of customers rather than the earlier crowd, looking to sonic who was sitting happily with an empty glass in front of him.

Shadow raised his brow.

"where did you get that?" He looked at sonic and pointed at the empty glass. Sonic looked up, "You gave it to me by accident earlier." Shadows gaze narrowed and his ear flicked. "You didn't think to tell me about my mistake?" Sonic widened his eyes and stammered "I was going to give it back, honest! But I tried it and it tasted so good that I drank it all..."

Sonic glanced to his side, thinking he might be in trouble. But instead, shadow only looked at sonic with curiosity.

"You....drank it?" Shadow looked visibly shocked. Or at least as shocked as shadow could look. "I thought you didn't drink."

Sonic looked at the empty glass, then back at shadow, leaning his chin on his palm "yeah, I dunno.... Maybe it was just kinda how you made it and stuff. With all those bartender skills and what not."

Shadow chuckled softly, and rolled his eyes with a slight smile. "I can make you another one if you really wa-"

"yes please." Sonic interrupted, almost foaming at the mouth from how bad he craved it.

Shadow took the empty glass from sonic and whipped up another drink, the exact same way but with something else this time.

Sonic took the drink as shadow set it down, taking a big sip and swallowing it bit by bit. As sonic set the glass down and smacked his lips to get his favorite flavor again.

Sonic looked at the glass in confusion, "is this the same drink?"

Shadow nodded.

"Are you sure?" Sonic asked. "It tastes different."

Shadow looked at the drink and then at Sonic with a faint smile. "Maybe I changed it, maybe I didn't."

Sonic looked at shadow with a smile as his eyes narrowed. "you changed it didn't you?"

Shadow shrugged teasingly, turning around to tend back to the other customers.

Sonic shook his head, chuckling softly to himself. Taking another sip with a content sigh.

Ooc: hey, sorry it took me a while for part 3, I get loads and loads of new ideas that I love in the moment and then abandon as soon as I have a new idea :/ But anyways, enjoy this new chapter!!

Shadow bid the rest of the customers goodbye right before closing time , looking over at sonic while he picked up his rag, wetting it in the sink and wiping off the booze-stained tables.

"It's almost time for you to head home, sonic." The hybrid watched the blue hedgehog through the corner of his eye, Sonic shifted in his seat.

"About that..." Sonic spoke cautiously, rubbing the back of his head and looking around the bar for the right phrase. Shadow's ears perked up unconsciously, slightly worried for his favorite customer. Although he would never admit that.

Shadow paused from wiping down table to look at sonic, dedicating his full attention to him.

Sonic chuckled softly, but it was an awkward laugh. Not the kind that makes you smile.

He looked down at the barely empty glass in front of him, running his fingertips along the smooth, cold glass before clearing his thought. "I'm gonna be honest... I've been staying at my buddy Tails' place for a while but... He's going to college soon and there won't be anyone at the house so..." Sonic straightened his posture and slicked his quills back with a shaky breath.

"I have about another two weeks before I won't have-" he choked on a bittersweet laugh, looking up and blinking a couple times to hold back tears.

"a home." His last two words felt like the anchor that was pulling down shadow's heart had finally plummeted. Shadow's hands tensed at his sides before speaking, a shaky voice that wanted to sound reassuring to some extent.

"If you don't mind, I think Rouge would be just fine if I brought a guest over for dinner."

Sonic finally looked to shadow, surprised.

"Y-you're serious?" Sonic blinked. "I've only known you for a couple weeks though, are you sure?"

Shadow nodded with a soft smile, one that he didn't intend. But liked.

Shadow took the rag and slung it over his shoulder, slightly regretting the scent of alcohol so close to his face. "Yes. And I'm overall finished tidying the place so I think we should get going. Don't you?"

Sonic smiled and almost leaped out of his chair with excitement. Waiting for shadow at the door as he adjusted his coat. Shadow couldn't help but roll his eyes at the childish behaviour, but he enjoyed it.

The two hedgehogs left the building with a faint ring of the bell behind them, locking up the place before stuffing their hands into their pockets and beginning the walk to the house.
