Ooc: back again and hopefully writing a lot more since it's summer but besides that, enjoy what I've cooked up

As they headed inside Sonic was surprised at the coziness of this place, the lights weren't too bright, there was a sweet welcome mat at the door to wipe you feet on and a coat hanger that also acted at a photo frame.

Sonic scanned the pictures, Shadow was standing beside a robot and a white bat which he assumed was Rouge.

The wafting smell of dinner from the kitchen made Sonic's mouth water, freshly cooked food was heaven compared to the microwavable meals he had been eating the past few weeks.

A feminine voice called out from the kitchen around the corner, "Shadow, come taste this! I want to know if I cooked it right."

Sonic and Shadow walked into the kitchen to see Rouge, curlers in her hair, a baggy shirt with some shorts and an apron that was barely tied in the back. As she looked up her eyes widened, "Shadow, why didn't you tell me we have a guest, I would've tried to look a little nicer that this."

Shadow shrugged, "it's no big deal, you look fine. This is Sonic. I met him at the bar and he needs a place to stay for a bit."

Rouge smiled and started undoing her apron to serve dinner, "oh, that's okay. Sonic, just know that since we don't have a guest bedroom we'll pull out an air mattress and you can sleep in the living room."

She made it seem as though it was a punishment, originally he was just thinking to sleep on the floor with a blanket or something, this was way better.

"Thank you so much, you're really generous people." Sonic sputtered out, rubbing the back of his neck. "If you need me to I can come back later when you two are done with dinn-"

Rouge snapped her fingers as a way of interrupting Sonic. "Ah, ah. You're our guest and you're entirely welcome to eat with us."

Sonic beamed, he hasn't felt this welcome in a long time. He sat down patiently at the table while shadow set the plates, rouge spooned out some pot roast for all three of them. As Rouge sat down at the table, Shadow took a bite of his food and said "Thank you, Rouge."

Rouge then leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, "no problem." As the two began cutting into their food, Sonic looked at the two of them and cleared his throat softly "I'm sorry, are you two...?" He pointed between the two with his fork with a confused face.

Rouge almost choked on her food laughing so hard, holding onto Shadows shoulder as support as she laughed and giggled. Sonic felt slightly embarrassed now, hoping to get an answer.

Shadow continued eating with a small smile and Rouge finished laughing her ass of at the innocent question. Rouge wiped a tear from her eye, sighing before looking to Sonic again "No, blue. We aren't dating romantically. We're in what you call a 'queer platonic relationship'." Sonic raised and eyebrow, taking another bite of his food.

Shadow wiped his mouth with a napkin before speaking "A queer platonic is when two people work in a domestic relationship, but seek no romance. There's no rings, no mouth kisses, no sex. Nothing that makes a relationship physically intimate."

Rouge nods her head, taking the lead again "the reason we're in this relationship isn't because I seek something all lovey do get with shadow, it's because we just work together. Everyday tasks are done in a breeze just because we work together so well. It's more that a friend, and less like a spouse."

Sonic nods his head slowly. "So... A platonic partner?"

Shadow and Rouge nod before going back to eating their meals, Sonic continues eating as well.

When everyone is done with their food, Rouge takes the plates and washes them in the sink While shadow goes to grab the air mattress.

Sonic waits in the living room, grateful that Shadow and Rouge were willing to give him hospitality.

Shadow, a sleek black hedgehog with distinct red stripes along his limbs and spines, had somehow found himself working at a bar as a bartender. He didn't complain though, despite it never being busy shadow earned himself a promising chunk of cheese for this job that required merely customer service and how to clean vomit-bleached booths that the drunkies had marked in their woozy state.

Everything had been going fine that day as it was nearing December, when all of the young adults would swing by to grab a drink or two for the holiday season. So he knew that his pay would increase and maybe allow him his own break for this wintery white time of year.

Although having nobody to spend it with other than Rouge, Omega, and himself.

Shadow's ears perked up to the sound of the bar door opening and closing with the faint ring of a bell being hushed by the wild winter wind coming from just outside the establishment.

In he came, with no winter clothing whatsoever and soaked from head to toe in currently melting snow. "What can I get for you?" The hybrid asked the curious blue hedgehog, who whipped his head around to look at shadow.

The blue hedgehog approached the bar stool with caution at the stranger's question before sitting down, a slight look of discomfort from the cold seat. "Just a water should be fine..." He finally answered.

Shadow raised an eyebrow at the request but soon shrugging it off and fulfilling the blue one's wish, sliding the glass over to him. The soaked hedgehog ran a hand through his quills and extended his arm towards Shadow for a hand shake, introducing himself with a "hey... Um.. b-by the way, I'm Sonic. Sonic the hedgehog." The darker hedgehog stared at the extended hand for a bit before completing the gesture.

"Shadow." He responded, as blunt as possible.

Shadow went back to making other customer's orders before glancing back at sonic, who was sipping his water at a turtle's pace. "So," Shadow began, glancing at Sonic again, "not very often someone comes into a bar asking for water." Shadow looked at him, expecting an answer for his odd behavior.

"Oh- uhh... Yeah, to be honest I'm not too big of a drinker. Alcohol tastes like barf." Sonic caught himself and raised his hands defensively. "N-no offense though, you being a bartender and all, you must love drinking."

Shadow sighed, although seemingly a cover up for a laugh. "Do you always assume this much?" Sonic averted his gaze and tensed a bit, sipping his water again. Shadow spoke again, returning to his work to busy his hands. "Actually, I'm not too fond of alcohol. Although making it and experimenting with flavors is entertaining in itself, alcohol typically does taste like... 'barf'."

Shadow smiled, amused at his own comment and glanced at sonic once again who had laughed softly at the slight mocking tone.

Shadow was called over by a customer needing a refill and went to tend to him, leaving sonic to trace the rim of the glass and stare at the reflection in the water.

With a smile.

Ooc: ooh so that last chapter was a little bit of a nothing burger but it's okay because guess who's back at it again with more of my bullshit

It's me.

Sonic watched as shadow had brought in an air mattress and bent over to plug it into the wall.

"You know I could have just slept on the couch or something, you didn't need to do all of this." Sonic uttered.

Shadow perked up and looked at sonic for a second, "You're our guest. Besides, the couch would be too small and thin, you would fall off immediately."

Sonic stared at the mattress as it inflated, feeling like a burden on someone he barely knew, he didn't even know how to keep conversation with shadow. At the bar, words came easily. Being at shadow's house felt too intimate and unknown.

"What's your favorite color?" Sonic broke the silence with an overused question.

Shadow looked at sonic again, confused. "I've never considered what it would be." He avoided the question with a cheap answer.

"Mm... Mines red." Sonic mumbled, feeling like a toddler for being so nervous, he was usually so outgoing.

What about Shadow made that change?

Shadow glanced over at sonic on the opposite side of the room. "Then mine is also red."

Sonic nodded at his answer and put his hands in his pockets as Shadow went over to the wall and unplugged the air mattress, throwing some blankets on it and walking away.

"Good night." Sonic called after him as he exited the living room, but the lights were already off and Shadow was already leaving.

Sonic sighed and got onto the air mattress, laying on top of the blanket although it being cold outside. He wondered how he would answer the question he had before.

Why did shadow make sonic so nervous?

Could it be he's cool? Could it be he's older? Could it be his house? Could it be his attitude? Could it be his job?

Sonic pondered this question for it made him uneasy, it made him feel vulnerable and small. The fact that just Shadow's presence could make Sonic so nervous was a little shocking, he had always been known for his bravery, even in little situations.

How come it was different now?

Sonic felt woozy and tired after thinking so much, merely closing his eyes and being able to drift off, unknowing that shadow was in the same predicament.

Shadow tossed and turned, feeling a sense of dread as Sonic slept in the same house as him, a hedgehog that was able to make him quieter than usual.

He thought about the question Sonic had asked earlier. About his favorite color. He didn't know how to respond to that one, making him realize how little he knows about himself.

It makes him feel like he's in the wrong body, a body that doesn't know itself.

He wonders why and how such a simple question could be so thought provoking when asked by Sonic.

Any other person and Shadow would either stay silent or say 'i don't know' however when he tried that, he felt guilty, guilty for not answering the stupid stupid question that stupid blue hedgehog had asked him.

Shadow grunted and covered his face with his hands, dragging his palms down his cheeks as he desperately wanted sleep.

That stupid hedgehog made him feel stupid sad gushy feelings that weren't needed.

Especially in a time like this.

Ooc: heyyyy.. . So I may have kinda sorta totally forgot about this but it's here now and ready to read!!

As Sonic and Shadow walked with the snow crunching under their boots and the soft glow of the street lights, they couldn't help but feel warm throughout all of this cold.

Sonic, a bit anxious to meet Shadow's roommates, followed close behind. Although silence was usually awkward, it felt comforting despite only knowing each other for a few weeks now.

Sonic looked around at the street lights, watching the snow fall with eager blue eyes. Turning to Shadow, he prepared to speak.

"So," he started "you mentioned someone named Rouge?"

Shadow turned to Sonic before looking at the road ahead, "Ah, yes. Rouge." He repeated her name with a newfound familiarity, Sonic knew she must be important to him in some way.

Shadow continued, "She's... Well, she's my roommate. She's my... Caretaker. She's... My friend, best friend. She's pretty much everything I need in life." Shadow caught himself briefly and turned to Sonic. "Don't tell her I said that though."

Sonic smiled and laughed, "Don't worry, dude. I wont."

They carried on with the same comfortable silence as before only to be broken by Shadow a moment later.

"Well, I told you about Rouge." Shadow looked at his feet and kicked a small pile of snow. "What was Tails like?"

Sonic's ears perked up at the mention of his somewhat adoptive brother. "Tails? Aw dude, he's the coolest. I think of him as my little brother." His eyes widen more at how much he wants to tell Shadow as rambles on.

"He's also like a huge nerd- in a good way. And he literally made a whole plane, he..." Sonic let's his hands rest at his sides again.

"He sure is bright. I'm gonna miss that little ball o' fur..." Sonic's ears flatten against his head at the memory of Tails going away to college before a soft hand rests on his shoulder.

Sonic turned to look at the black and red paw that was reassuring him. "It's okay, Hell be back sooner than you know." Shadow said softly, "I still remember when I went on a 6 month G.U.N. mission and Rouge missed me the whole time."

Sonic smiled and felt his heart flutter, slicking back his quills before looking up to be met with front porch. "Here we are." Shadow informed, taking the hand on Sonic's shoulder and opening the door to a delicious smell of pot roast.

They headed inside.
