When I was a new Mom, Mother’s Day was a day I looked forward to. Finally, I’d be able to experience this rite of passage as my own Mom did.
Growing up, I remember my brothers and I making Mom breakfast in bed, giving her handmade cards and crafts that we made in school. We also used our hard-earned allowance to buy her what we thought were treasures. To her they were probably more dust collectors or bath soaps that she didn’t really want or need. I remember the really heavily-perfumed lilac soap I got her from the pharmacy. It was all I could afford and we were so proud to present our gifts to Mom.
Now that my daughter is seven years old, Mother’s Day is still about the handmade cards and the cute crafts made at school. It’s still about breakfast in bed and the feigning surprise! The cold toast and the freshly picked daffodil from the garden, and the big smile and look of pride in Little One’s face are all things I value. To be honest, I’d really just like a quiet morning with a cup of tea, some cuddles, and for Hubby and Little One to clean my van inside and out. That’s all. Really.
If I had to receive an actual Mother’s Day gift though, I’d love something simple and thoughtful. Oh, and it has to be pretty!
Here are some sweet gifts for Mom this Mother’s Day:
Hallmark has some beautiful gifts for Mom this Mother’s Day. Among my favourites are the candle holder and picture frame below. Little One intercepted the FedEx guy and ran to her room with our #LoveHallmarkCA box. She told me not to come into her room and when she emerged, she presented me with one of my favourite photos of the two of us at the beach. I almost cried. She told me it was my early Mother’s Day gift. So sweet.
One of my many quirks is that I have a thing for tea towels. I love pretty tea towels! This one from Hallmark is a favourite of mine as well.

I’m not sure about you, but I really appreciate a thoughtful card. I love the beauty and power of the written word…especially when it comes from people I love. Of course, Hallmark being synonymous with the perfect greeting card, I found the perfect cards for Mom, Mother-in-Law and for Little One to give to her grandmothers.
Here are some of my favourites.
Since I always get emotional about everything, check out this Hallmark video. I admit, I’m a sucker for a thoughtful card…and not just any ordinary card. Though every day is a good day to appreciate Mom, Mother’s Day is special. Moms are not ordinary, so they deserve #NoOrdinaryCard. Tell me that this video didn’t make you just even a tad weepy! I’m going to give my Mom an extra big hug now.
