probably my favorite part of loveless’ comemntary on virginity/purity culture that reaches far beyond the 4th wall is how ritsuka is only recognizable/“special” in terms of design via his cat ears. In other words, without them, fans have little to discern him from other anime boy protags, leading us to lose appeal in his appearance without his virginity intact. if he isnt “pure” then his cat traits AKA his whimsical catboy appeal…is lost to the audience and he becomes just another normal-looking unremarkable human boy with no magical purity aura. which is awful but i think its intentional and for us to think about why virginity should be idolized in the first place.
again its also why i think she should have been able to write him having his ears stolen and becoming an “adult” by way of becoming demoted to “impure”/unremarkable/not special as he would be viewed by society, and its more tragic because it’s under circumstances out of his control…
im thinking to write a fic of this if i get courage but yeah. and i am going to go so hard on the soubi whiplash. the idea of him suddenly realizing child abuse is wrong when it happens to ritsuka being pushed to its limit because will he still be able to say “its ok when it happens to me because im not a person and ritsuka is” when the same thing that happened to him happens to ritsuka…find out on the next episode of my autism spectrum disorder
OK RITSUKA BIRTHDAY ART YAY. i just got the trial version of rebelle 8 pro! its incredible! and its a lot like painting with my oils irl except without the mess, usage of materials + money, and unfixable mistakes! and i can do post-edits without having to pop it in the scanner or anything.
this picture is so special to me. seimei with that iron grip on ritsuka’s wrist, unwavering, certain, meanwhile ritsuka’s fingers slipping from seimei’s sleeve, his hand just dangling down like it’ll drop any minute. like he’s not sure if he can keep lying to himself anymore. this is without a doubt my favorite aoyagicest drawing ever its so dreadful and grodyyy AUGH seimei please die.
