It doesn’t surprise Loki at all that he has to leave.
He knew that this day would come, knew that he would have to endure this great pain. Him and Sif have always tiptoed around each other, never really getting anywhere. That being said, he still cared for her greatly. And now, he’s off to a battle where he knows that he will get killed. There is no question about it. He had not told anyone, not even Thor. Not yet, anyway.
But he can’t help wanting to go see the warrior at night, wishing to say his last goodbyes. So he makes his way down the winding corridors of the castle to her quarters. It has been forever, he thinks to himself, since he has seen her alone. Would she tell him to leave? Would she welcome him? He had no idea. The only times that he had been with the Warriors 3 and Lady Sif since his death was when he was with Thor, and even then not many words were exchanged.
When he finally reaches the door to her quarters, he hesitates. Perhaps he should not have come, perhaps he should just leave. But, no, he does not. He gathers the courage and knocks on her door, and within seconds, the golden doors push open to reveal Sif, and Loki feels his heart drop in his chest.
"Hello, dearest Sif. Have you missed me?" he said, strolling into her room without asking. He hears her let out an annoyed huff of breath behind him, and he mentions nothing about it. "I have news. You may enjoy it." he said, and truly, he does not know if she will grieve or if she will be joyous.
"I am going to battle. And most likely? I shall never return. You may rejoice now if you wish. I only came to tell you because…" his voice trails off, not finishing his sentence. When he looks at Sif, he can not read the emotions on her face. For once in his life, he can’t tell how she feels. And he hates it. He takes a step closer to her. "Do you care? Would you mourn if I were to fall, Sif?" he asked, and she must hear the sincerity in his voice, she must.
Before Sif has the chance to respond, he takes her cheek in his hand, surprising her. And within seconds, his lips are on hers, and whatever thoughts that were running through his head are gone in an instant, and he’s reveling in the bliss of finally getting what he wanted all along, even if the warrior was to push him away in a moment.
It was only too bad that he may never have it again.
