this whole night was so unbelievably weird. it was one thing for this anonymous psycho to lure each of them out to this particular cabin in the middle of the night, but for it to be for a random surprise party for liza? anthony couldn't even fathom why this was happening. there had to be some reason why they were all gathered here, and it was not for liza's birthday.

speaking of the birthday girl, he needed to find her and make sure she was okay. ant hadn't seen her since they split up, her going with musa and him going with sarah and justice. and after blythe's tirade, he definitely needed to check in. thankfully, he didn't need to search very far because he found the brunette near the bonfire.

"hey," he says, coming up behind her and taking a seat on one of the logs surrounding the fire, "are you good? i caught blythe in the middle of her freak out and wanted to make sure you were okay too."

because of the whirlwind that had been the last few days, anthony hadn't had time to actually see liza. sure, they texted about the party afterwards, but it wasn't the same as debriefing in person. which is exactly what ant needed, not just after the party but also about everything that had happened afterwards.

with two mugs in hand, he made his way towards where liza had made her home at one of the tables in the coffee shop. he set her mug in front of her before sliding into the seat across from her, his own mug clenched tightly in his hands to warm them up.

"so," ant starts a half-hearted smile slipping onto his features as he looks down at his coffee, "on a scale of one to ten, how badly do you think everything is going to get now?" a part of him was talking about tag, sure, but another part was talking... everything else. life in general, probably.

anthony was nothing if not a generous host. even if the location in question wasn't necessarily his, he still made sure that a plate of all of sabrina's best cookies were placed in front of eliza at the table near the window. he even went so far as to help sabrina with the batches this morning, knowing full well that he was still in the process of earning his keep upstairs.

"okay," he starts as he plops into the chair across from liza, hands splaying out in front of him as he gestures to the array of cookies, "we've got a few different flavors here. there's toasted marshmallow, nutella -- my personal favorite -- regular chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and white chocolate macadamia nut." he pauses, picking up a chocolate chip, and pointing it at liza before taking a bite. "and if you don't like any of them, keep it to yourself. sab will not take any criticism, even if it is constructive."

while it had been a surprise to receive a text from liza, ant had to admit that it had been a pleasant one. after years of trying to ignore liza and their unusual connection to each other, it felt like to finally break the ice even under the awful circumstances. it was a small bridge, but it was a start. that much, ant could be thankful for. it was definitely much better than being screamed at when he was thirteen.

he knew that liza was coming to the party, so he'd subconsciously kept an eye out for her. so many people had come up to him with sad looks and condolences, so he could only imagine that it would be worse for her considering liza had been amelia's current partner.

ant was finally able to wrangle himself free from socializing, beer in hand as he exited out onto the front porch. he didn't see the other person out there until he was practically spilling his beer onto them. "fuck, sorry. i didn't see you," he mumbles in apology.
