❛ It shouldn’t have happened. I shouldn’t have let it happen. ❜

“ you didn’t let anything happen. ” the words are firm with the strength of her belief, touch as gentle and(/or) reassuring as she can manage when it lands on the other girl’s shoulder. she can sympathize after all - many things happened back in those days that she regrets, and they still come back to haunt her from time to time.
she wished there was something more she could say. something that would alleviate the obvious pain in her friend’s voice. in the past, perhaps, she would have been more angry, would have felt that silena’s guilt was deserved and her suffering warranted. but annabeth had grown past those feelings. she could see, now, the reality of the situation that had surrounded them all those years ago. now, she just had pity for the girl before her.
“ and… we can’t do anything about it now. ” wow, really uplifting chase. but the words are out so she commits, offering as much of a smile as she can muster. “ nothing, except live so that everything that happened won’t be in vain. so that we can change the future, and make sure none of it happens again. ”
