Late night thoughts and music.

I have always loved Scotland. Even before Outlander. Long before Outlander. Scotland and Ireland were two countries that I was dying to see, feeling some strange magnetic pull towards them, loving the people, the spirit, the red hairs and fiery temperaments, the history although it was filled with torment and wars but I felt that even through those worst time, their hearts were larger than anything, always led them forward. And somehow I felt like I belonged there or maybe I did in my previous life, having a fiery temperament and a passionate heart myself. I loved their language and the way they roled their R’s over the tongue (finding it incredibly sexy really), the humor that was raunchy and without constraint and the way they put honor before everything, fighting for, dying for it.

But the nature… those beautiful wast plains and giant hills, lochs and creeks, monsters and fairies, sounds of waterfalls and songs of birds in those wonderful green woods that hold so many ghost stories and legends under their treetops.

And the music… the sounds of pipes that either meant war or dancing, sounding incredibly sad or indescribably romantic.

I’ve never had the chance to visit Scotland or learn about it properly because I live in a small country on the shores of the Adriatic coast. We probably mentioned Scotland only in passing while learning world history, but my fascination hasn’t subsided. It only grew as years passed by.

And then came Braveheart and to this day I cannot watch that movie without crying through it the entire time, not just for the love story of William Wallace and his wife. I’ve cried and still cry every time for the love story of William Wallace and Scotland. Every single Scott and Scotland. Scotland and freedom.

When trying to explain feelings, those deep, deep feelings that you carry buried in your chest and in your heart, words often fail. And maybe words failed me here and now, while I tried to explain my love for a country that I have never been a part of but always felt like I belonged.

If they have, if words failed me, I give you music. Music that captures my feelings, music that makes me cry and laugh and daydream about wast green hills, munros, deep blue lochs and ice cold waterfalls and streams finding their way through rocks and woods, being wild and free, just like Scotland always wanted to be. Music that has nothing to do with movies and shows but has everything to do with the leading lady in both - Scotland 💙
