Do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"I have a ten-year-old cat, Helga Von Puff-n-Stuff. I wish I could claim her name, but the vet tech who saved her as a rescue kitty named her, I just couldn’t change it once I heard it. She’s a bit of a terror, but I love her dearly. I’m actually writing a cat into one of my upcoming novels based on her look and personality. She is a character, that’s for sure."

This is the type of thoughtful review with strong critique and even issues with some of what is included in the books that I really appreciate. There’s something about reaching a reader who finds faults with your work but can still appreciate it despite that and offer praises as well that can be even more rewarding than simple gushing.

2. Convince us why you feel your book is a must read. It’s fantasy the way fantasy should be – a reflection of reality shown in fantastical ways. It’s still about trauma and mental health and relationships and recovery, but through the guise of heroes and villains and amazing powers. It’s a love story but just as much about learning to love yourself as another person, and in the end, after writing it, I felt better about me and my own struggles, rejuvenating not only my love for my husband, which writing always does for me, but reminding me that at the darkest times there is always a way back into the light.

If you could visit your book’s world for a day, what one thing would you do?
In the universe of the Lovesick series, everyone has a connecting element which displays itself through their eye color – fire is red, yellow is lightning, etc. And while most people manifest minor benefits from their element – fire people maybe being able to handle extreme heat better than others, for example – some display stronger fantastical abilities like my two main protagonists.
So, were I to suddenly find myself in their world, I’d want to see if that changed me – are my eyes different, and if they are and I’m connected to an element, which one and what can I do with that? I’d definitely want to experiment.
Personally, I’ve always thought of myself as a fire person, hence those example.
