𝐡𝐞'𝐝     𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲     𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝     𝐲𝐞𝐬     𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲    so  that  clark  would    stop    pestering  him  about  it     ⸻    clark  wanted  bruce  to    attend    some  event    (    which     he'd     rather     not     go     to     due     to     the     attention     it     would     draw     to     him     )     so  that  he  could  go  in  as  a  journalist,     no  doubt  get  the    scoop    on  something.     now  it's  the  following  morning  and  he  doesn't  want  to  go,     his  body  aches  and  there's  an  insistent    pounding    behind  his  eyes.     despite  this,     he's  up  and  moving  around,     skillfully  moving  around  clark  like  an  impending  object  about  to    collide    into  his  body,     much  more  focused  on  something  else.

setting  down  the  stack  of  papers  onto  his  desk,     he  sighs,     hunched  over  for  a  moment  before    finally     turning  to  look  at  clark.    ❛    you're   very   insistent,     you   know.     what's   even   the    purpose   of   me   going   to   this   other   than   to   garner   attention    ?    everyone   will    flock    in   trove's.    ❜    he  didn't  need  the    attention    on  him  in  all  honesty  but  according  to  alfred,     being  within  the  public  eye  would  be  good,     to  show  that  remaining  of  the  wayne's    existed.

the dream has faded. even if she were to try, she wouldn't be able to recall any fine details. but the warmth of peyton's hands still linger at her waist. the hush of her breath against bella's ear. these sensations have gone absolutely nowhere. they burn themself into her. marrow deep. clouded in a sense of shame for even having the dream in the first place.

and a sense of longing.

she's tried very hard to ignore what she feels for peyton. because she loves them both. that's the simplest truth there is. they both hold a prominent piece of her heart. they've rooted themselves into the very fabric of her being. and until now peyton has made it easy for her to ignore what's been building.

until last night. it was innocent. just a friend kiss at the end of a girls night. and then it wasn't and bella couldn't pull away even though she knew it was wrong. that it would hurt edward. but that kiss brought it all roaring to the surface. she couldn't possibly ignore it now. but she thought she'd have a little more time to prepare herself - to think. instead her stupid subconscious gave her away.

as she looks at the hurt in his eyes she's almost afraid to ask what he heard from her sleeping mouth. she wants to know if whatever she said was the first time he'd had suspicions about her feelings. because he seems so...resigned, for someone potentially just finding out that his fiance might be in love with someone else. to be so sure she would be running away with peyton...had he seen what bella had tried so hard to ignore?

❝ i - i don't - know. maybe. no. i mean i just ... i don't know, edward, i'm so sorry. ❞ her words fall out in a rush as she tries to figure out what to say. how to explain. when the truth is she really doesn't know.

𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫     𝐝𝐢𝐝     𝐡𝐞     𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭    he'd  need  to    rely     upon  others,     it  wasn't  really  his    style     but  who  could  say    no     to  superman    ?     better  known  to  him  as    clark   kent,     a  simple    reporter    who  has  too  many    suspicious     opportunities  to  interview  the  superhero  that  constantly  saves  metropolis.     despite  this,     he  barely    knew     anything  about  the  kryptonian,     watching  the  unconscious  man  beside  him,     he  notes  the  way  he  looks  so     ...    peaceful.     it  made  bruce  wonder  if  truly  everything  was  so  easy  for  him,     being  able  to  do  so  much  without    worry     but  also  having  a  secret  many  would    kill    for.

he  isn't  sure  how    long     he's  been  watching  him  while  he  slept,     only  when  does  clark  start  to    rustle     does  he  tear  his  gaze  away,     looking  towards  the  window  with  the  blinds  half-way  pulled  down.    morning.     shifting  atop  the  bed,     he  lets  out  a    sigh,     body  aching  from  a  previous  fight.     bruises    blossomed     on  pale  skin  and  irritated  from    stitching    himself  back  up  after  hauling  clark's  ass  up  into  the  house  and  onto  the  bed.    ❛    good   morning,     i'm    guessing     you   got   a   sufficient   amount   of   sleep.     be    thankful     i   was   able   to   drag   you   up   here.    ❜    he  wouldn't  of  left  him    unconscious    where  he'd  gotten  knocked  out,     however  the  thought  is    mildly     amusing.

the dock peyton suggested the race down to see who pays for lunch is relatively smooth. but it's still a dock. lots of little crevices just waiting to knock her down, giving peyton an easy win, and an embarrassing loss for bella.

crossing her arms tightly across her chest, she shakes her head with a firm no. ❝ i'm not partaking in this humiliation ritual, but thanks. i'll just buy us lunch without giving you a good laugh first. ❞

bella sighs, picking mindlessly as the grass as she continues to stare at the darkening grey of the sky. it's easier to look there than at peyton. to have to admit that no, no she's not fine at all. she made the mistake of talking to her mother and that tends to sour her entire day, if not week depending on the conversation.

this one was particularly difficult. a lot of guilting and not a lot of love. she doesn't know how to talk about it though. how to explain how much she mourns someone who's still alive. coming to forks was the best thing to happen to her, but in moments like this she misses the ignorance of not seeing just who her mom really was. and then she feels guilty because she wouldn't trade a damn thing to go back to who she was. to go back to a time before her closeness with her dad, back to somewhere she wouldn't have known peyton.

but sometimes she just m i s s e s her mom. or who she thought her mom was.
