❛ then talk. ❜ tomorrow had heard chatter on the magellan that higgs was sporting a new member in his cult. she doesn't understand how anyone would want to be with that guy, not after what he's been doing across australia. yet tomorrow is unaware of the whole story, only hearing the whispered worries between fragile and sam when she happens upon them. she doesn't mean to eavesdrop, but they seem so worried and she hates seeing them that way.

tomorrow would do anything to ease their worries to repay them for their kindness.

THIS PARTICULAR MANIFESTATION OF THE SHAPE IS NOT QUITE RIGHT, though above all else he is human-shaped. the skull mask feels particularly foreign, but it's a fleeting thing, his real face securely stashed in the depths of the barn attached to the massive tower farm. the cheap fog machines have set off the smoke detectors from within the house itself, prompting a mass exodus of the teens and college students inside. most leave in their cars in pursuit of the next tailgate or rave. but not her. she waits in the barn, sat atop a bale of hay, presumably waiting for a friend to pick her up. the red-headed girl, most likely, whose face is an inconsequential blur among the masses. she notices him when a boot crunches a pile of dead leafs neatly raked in the barn's entrance.

"very funny, asshole," she says when he doesn't respond to any of her attempts at garnering and eventually provoking a response. she must know silence is a response in itself. the only response she gets is an intentionally audible exhale as he steps forward.

unfortunately if she retreats any further, she'll notice the body of the boy whose mask he's borrowing for this occasion, barely but intentionally in her line of sight.

𝖘𝖍𝖊'𝖉  𝖇𝖊𝖊𝖓  𝖜𝖆𝖎𝖙𝖎𝖓𝖌  for mikaela,  her friend who  promised  to meet her within the barn.  taken to sitting atop the hay bales,  eyes  adjust  to the sudden figure not far before her,  skull mask  barely  illuminated between lowlights and the smoke of  cheap  fog machines.  her words  echo  around her,  in the relatively small barn,  silence was nothing if  not  an answer,  she knew of the pranks people have been playing tonight.  of course it would be on  halloween.

watching as the man steps forward,  fingers  tighten  on loose hay coming from the  loosened  hay bale,  brows furrowing.  she wasn't scared,  no  ⸻  teenage boys who had nothing better to do than disturb someone's peace were  annoying.  or so she assumes the person adorning the mask before her was a teenager.  hopping up off of the bale,  eyes shift around the barn,  eyes suddenly  noting  the lifeless body on the ground,  barely in her line of sight but just enough to be  noticable.

throat tightens,  a sudden  twisting  in her stomach,  a violent urge to yell  ⸻  to  run  away as far as she can get.  eyes flick to look at the skull mask,  anxiety  rising  with each breath she takes.  ❛  what  the  fuck  did  you  do  ...  this  isn't  funny,  asshole.  ❜  breath hitches in her throat as sable takes steps back,  foolishly  trapping herself with the masked man,  the back entrance of the barn  blocked  off for the sole purpose of tonight's activities.
