Mirth!! Hello! Out of curiosity, do you get along with any of the higher generals? Or perhaps the incubi brothers or their wives?
Mirth smile brightens at the mention of the lower generals. She shifts from her seat moving side to side. “I love all of the generals. Dan makes me smile, his presence is like a hug. I like the way his voice sounds. It makes me feel warm and happy. He always looks out for us as well, like a true friend. Shama, she looks out for us in her own way. She tries to hide it though. She positions herself in darkness and tells lies. She feels, a lot of rage. It feels hot against my skin. It makes me want to laugh and then cry.”
Mirth lets her fingers rake through her hair. “Eternimus feels sad most of the time. Though I like the way he speaks and the way he laughs. It makes my heart feel nice. Bajang, he’s elusive. Talking to him and sensing him is like chasing a cloud. He’s just out of reach. Though one day I will catch him.”
She shifts in her chair. Her expression shifts at mention of the wives. “I like the wives as well. They are very pretty and they are nice to me. I don’t think they’ve noticed us yet, well not really. I like them all the same though. Iridessa smiled at me once and said how much she likes my hair. Even Cary told me that I look like sunshine! It made me feel pretty.”
Mirth lets her hand press down against the fabric of her clothes. Her fingers brush over the yellow flower. “I like Norin as well, she is so bright like a star. She twinkles brightest around the Prince. Even Twilia has a certain appeal to her. I can’t quite put words to it. Though, when I sense she’s nearby I just want to seek her out. Do you suppose she would play with me if I asked?”
She leans in closer to you as she asks her question. “I really want to play with them all. I hope they let me~”
“Though, as for the Princes. I don’t know them, or really much about them. I know they did something bad, Ete and Shama whisper about it sometimes. Dan said he tell me about it later when it won’t inhibit my work. The other soldiers react strongly to the Princes. Some of them feel joy, some of them feel depressed, and most feel anger. I don’t like how it feels when they’re around. It is frightening. All I know I’m sworn to protect them and their wives. I suppose that’s all that matters. I am a lower general after all.”
Were there any complicated feelings about becoming a lower general? Or was it a mantle you were eager to take up?
Mirth thinks for a moment. She has never considered being a lower general. The title seems trivial to her, it always has. She shrugs her shoulders and laughed. “I suppose it just happened. One day I came to the camps with Malice. We started to fight with the others. We listened to Dan, Shama, Ete, and Bajang. I held the sword and Malice charged forward. When we weren’t fighting Malice and I would make the troops smile. We made jokes, sang songs, and danced. The troops liked it. After that we were promoted!”
Mirth giggled at the thought, “the ceremony was short. I feel like they just pulled me up there at random. We were told that we were to be lower generals. But this sort of thing makes me feel happy. I want to protect my friends, I get to protect people, and I get to make the bad guys suffer.” She smiled at the thought. “Isn’t that everyone’s dream?”
What do you value most in friendship?
“I like people who spend time with me, talk with me, and laugh with me.” Mirth motions over towards the other lower generals. “They are all important to me. I’ve been teaching them to dance. Only Ete and Shama seem to be good at it, and only with one another.” She smiles, “We all make time to sit by the fire once a while and tell stories about things that have been happening around the castle.” She looks about before leaning in and whispering. “Sometimes they have stories about the Princes and their Princesses. I even told them about the… special one. She trained with me you know.”

Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?
“Not really… all I know is we all will die one day. I just hope when I go I’m not alone.”
What is the weirdest scar you have and how did you get it?
Mirth smiles as she reaches down towards her left pant leg. Slowly she peels it upwards, past her calf, knee, and up towards her mid thigh. A small pink scar sits on the inside of her thigh. “I got bit,” she states simply. Her fingers brush against the surface of the numb skin. “As far as bites go, it wasn’t all to unpleasant.”
She adjusts her pants to normal and then reaches for her right sleeve. Pulling it up she shows a scar on her right elbow in the shape of a heart. “During training, I hit a shield too hard with my elbow. “It still tingles sometimes.” She bends and extends her arm a few times before she stands up and faces away from you. She reaches behind herself and pulls down the back of her shirt to reveal a darkened patch of skin in the form of a “Y”.
“Ete bet me that I couldn’t backflip down the stairs. I couldn’t,” she said as slides her shirt back into place. “But we laugh about it now.”
