Hey so once again I know no one really follows me on here for tetro stuff and you guys wont even really know what this is about, and I'm not gonna really dive into the deep dark lore now. Basically this Hirose Shingo guy is mine (and the fandoms) now so I redrew all his sprites and then some.
I figured I would put some of them into a little test video for you all so you can see what they look like in practice and just sort of get a fun introduction to them before I break down my choices in regards to the design.
Go my Shingo. I really want to thank @jazzyolivervo for voicing Hirose and bringing his story to life he really means a lot to me. I know she expressed wanting some distance from Tetro so I'm mostly tagging her so you all can go find her and see what other work she's in. I don't want her to feel obligated to respond or to say anything but if she does see this then I hope she knows how much her work means to so many people. I really hope things get easier, keep doing your best!
The rest of his sprites are in a google drive folder HERE and anyone can use them with credit of course. There are currently two versions but I have a variation of his second sprite that has his jacket off and I wasn't sure about including that in the doc because of his scars. I didn't want to trigger anyone I guess, but I also think that hiding them and pretending they aren't there in my art might be a disservice to his story. I figured maybe the best thing to do was just to ask you guys what you thought and if you wanted to see those sprites too.

Okay I know this has been a lot of talking but I'm not done. I'm gonna kinda ramble about my design process now so I'll put that under the cut in case you don't really want to read all that.
Okay now your officially locked into this so buckle up. I have been seeing tons of tetro redesigns lately right? And they are so amazing and impressive. If you are reading this and are in the tetro fandom you probably know some of the artists I'm thinking of. My goal was not a complete redesign per say. I went into this project with the mentality of 'make what is already there make sense' because I wanted Hirose to be fairly recognizable while also being distinctly different in ways that made his overall design work better. Though I will admit the long hair in front of the ears was really just for me. I couldn't stand the fact that he doesn't have it.
Anyways, with that philosophy in mind I pulled out the sprite art and started looking it over and I basically annotated it based on what I thought looked,,, off. Which was a few things considering we know of his AI slop nature.
There are probably quite a few other things that were worth pointing out in this sprite alone but these were the things that struck me the most odd. His sweater to look like that would have to be a... button up turtle neck? Its technically possible but its kind of strange right? So I just decided to make it a normal pull over sweater for the purposes of my design. I don't know at all why his suit jacket over the sweater (kinda odd in and of itself but that feels very Hirose so I kept it) has two lines around the top when there was literally no reason for it. I just removed a line obviously. Along with making both his sleeve cuffs consistent. And the SHOES??? why are they just black? I literally just added details to the shoes of my redraw.
The color pallet I opted not to change much I literally just moved around a few of the shades of grey on his outfit, made his skin tone a bit more saturated, and had his glasses be brighter red because I thought it added nice contrast to his mostly black and grey color scheme.
Which is how we ended up here with his general design. But I did not want to just stop there, because I think in chapter 5 he must have been wearing another outfit. He was experiencing pretty bad temperature sensitivity at the time, so I think he lost some of his layers in an attempt to feel better. Its actually the only thing that makes sense considering he is able to take off his jacket in loyalty game and evidently doesn't have long sleeves underneath it. He also was caring a lot more medically for some of the other students, especially Tei. So I think whatever he was wearing must have been something that would allow him to be prepared for that. Basically I decided he found some scrubs left behind by the scientists on one of the floors (or something like that, maybe he had them in his workstation instead I don't know) and started wearing them.
I made him look more medically prepared in this version too, wearing gloves and with a face mask around his neck, because he's concerned about needing to jump into action at anytime. By chapter 5 he's emotionally beginning to fray, is sick due to the motive, and physically exhausted so I've drawn him looking much more rough. I really wanted to capitalize on that idea that the survivors come back home looking different than when they left because they were so affected by their experiences and so I hope the contrast between the two versions are evident.
On sort of another note I think its so funny how many of us decided to have our versions of Hirose wear grey scrubs. I guess we all just kinda felt the vibes.
Anyways that's all for me, I don't know if this post comes off awkward or not or if people will even engage with it really. But yeah I hope this was cool for you to read. I'm nervous to post this but what can you do besides do it right?
I think you won't be surprised when I say its a lot of different things that make Gentan appeal to me.
I think probably the biggest things involve how they treat one another. Tanjiro doesn't even bat an eye at genyas ability to eat demons, besides to ask if he is okay. Tanjiro is unfailingly kind to Genya, but also holds him accountable if he does something wrong.
Genya doesn't trust Tanjiros kindness at first but when he learns he can trust him, he opens his heart to Tanjiro and he can be the gentle and kind and slightly awkward boy he was hiding behind his aggressive attitude born out of a need to protect his soft heart.
Plus I think they can relate to each other in unique ways because of their similar circumstances of both losing their families in a tragic way due to a demon and having to grow up and take on responsibilities faster than they might have been ready for.
So yeah I just feel like they have a really special relationship with each other.
Opinions on Genkana, GenIno and GenZen? :3 OH AND GENYA X SENJURO/SENJIRO (which ever one the younger one is, not the father obvi...)
Ohhh yes okay! Let's see...
Genkana! Its super cute I think Kanao and Genya have a lot in common especially in how they grew up in some ways. Kanaos calmness I think would help Genya a lot and Genyas strong emotions would stir Kanao into feeling more open to feel how she wants to feel. I think they would be so cute.
GenIno... oh they would definitely be fighting all the time. And wrestling for sure. I see them more as siblings than anything but if they were in a relationship they would constantly be giving bickering married couple. I think Inosukes pure confidence could be good for Genya.
GenZen. This one is tough for me. I know a lot of people like it and I think it could be cute! But I have trouble picturing it. Someone should tell me why they like it sometime I'd be really interested.
SenGen!! My beloved!! Yes Senjuro is the younger brother to Kyojuro but I get how its easy to mess up because... honestly very similar names. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM they are so similar to me but the way they approach their similar problems is totally different and I really think they would benefit from each others perspectives plus comfort each other when they need it the most.
Talk more about gennezu please I've been screaming from the rooftops how much potential they have as a ship and it's utterly shocking that more people don't like it
SURE! Hmmm maybe I can give you guys some of my headcanons regarding gennezu? I should honestly post some of my fanart too, if you guys would be interested in seeing that then let me know.
The two of them don't really get together until they are young adults. Genya is spending Sanemi's last years with him so hes not in a mental or emotional place for a relationship and Nezuko is recovering still from the trauma of her time as a demon.
Genya and Nezuko always liked each other as friends but didnt grow a very close bond emotionally until after Sanemi's death. Genya was so full of grief he locked everyone out, but Nezuko was able to reach him because she has a similar fear and looming certainty of losing Tanjiro. So she understands his devastation. And he doesnt want Nezuko to be alone with hers when the inevitable comes so he starts to be more present for her.
Their relationship is really slow burn. It takes them a few years to get together officially. Most of their other friends are already married and some have kids on the way.
They get married in a smaller ceremony, Tanjiro gets to attend, but Sanemi of course cannot be there to see it. There is an empty place for him though, so he can be there in spirit.
Both Nezuko and Genya want a big family. They end up with a mix of adopted and biological kids and they probably have the most kids out of any of their friends. Both also love to babysit their friends kids. So they have a very busy house.
Genya is permanently disabled after nearly dying to kokushibo in the final battle, so he has to take it easy more often than not. Nezuko scolds him for working to hard. He scolds Nezuko in turn for working to hard and taking to much on her shoulders.
They are extremely gentle parents. But they both have a stern side to them. All the kids are expected to help out in the ways they can. But they are given the grace and care of just being kids.
They don't tell their kids about demons at all. That's a fear that they don't want to pass on. They ended it so the fear can end with them too.
Arguments for Genya and Nezuko look a lot like tense silences and looking at each other out of the corners of their eyes. They rarely argue for long as Nezuko is a big believer in communication. Meanwhile Genya hates confrontation even if he seems confrontational. Hes more likely to want to run away. Nezuko makes him feel more comfortable to be open by showing him not every disagreement is confrontation.
They are both really protective of each other and will absolutely become irritated/angry if they think their other half is being mistreated. Nezuko is less likely to tolerate mistreatment of herself but Genya will usually allow people to mistreat him. Nezuko is frustrated by this.
Both of them are very loyal and neither are particularly jealous or insecure about the others feelings for them.
I hope that helps you guys understand how I view their relationship better! Uhm and I hope it feeds you guys. Gennezu lovers we are starving out here.
What is there to ship about Genya and Nezuko, that make no sense
I get why you would think that. And it's totally fine if you don't see it. But I figure since your asking me maybe your curious about why I like it? So here are some of my thoughts.
Basically I think of them as being really compatable, as in they are pretty similar people but with some key differences. I think they can relate about a lot of their struggles. Particularly in relation to the loss of family. Not to mention they would have a lot to discuss about being the second oldest sibling in a large family. Both the responsibilities they undertook to protect their family and the feelings they have for their oldest sibling.
Plus both of them have been a demon/demon adjacent and that particular experience despite it being very different for each of them, would probably make them feel less alone when maybe others don't really get it.
Personality wise I think they mesh well together too, both have strong desires to protect and defend their loved ones. And they can be intense about those things. Also they are very resilient in the face of hardship and are willing to push themselves or sacrifice to make it work. They are very family oriented, and honestly they seem quite stubborn.
I think it would mean they could butt heads a lot and get into little squabbles, but that they would defend each other to the ends of the earth. I think a lot of their fights would be about the others well being. I think in the face of hardship they would present a united front and would lean on each other for strength and support.
Even if they never got together romantically in my mind I see them as excellent friends. I think everyone I ship Genya with I would also see him as being very close platonically with regardless. So yeah. I hope that made some kind of sense.
do you ship genya with anyone? if not, do you have any non romantic pairings of genya that you enjoy? personally in my mind i think that kanao and genya are besties who write to each other often
So, I'm a huge multishipper and I see the potential in a lot of ships for genya. Though I definitely have my favorites. I really like GenTan. I think they are super compatible and honestly I feel like genya would be attracted to gentle and caring people. Also I happen to think its good because Sanemi would have a heart attack about it, cause he hates Tanjiro.
I also really like SenGen (Senjuro/Genya) its a lot more of a rare pair. Though im not sure exactly how old Senjuro is. So if hes younger than 14 (my headcanon age for him) It would make me uncomfortable. But anyways I really like them together because I think they would be able to understand each other as each of them struggles to be a slayer in their own ways. And they have an older sibling they are trying to live up to. Even if they didn't get together romantically I think they would be quite good friends.
And my last big favorite one is GenNezu. Though specifically a turned back into a human Nezuko. Because her demon form seems to be stuck in a more child like mentality I dont like to ship her with anyone like that. I also think they have a lot in common and they could understand the unique position of having been a demon. Like I think even when she was a demon Genya could read her body language best and understand her more demon vocalizations. So he had a better idea of what she was trying to convey than other people. Nezuko is sweet and kind, and understanding but she also wont let disrespect stand in my mind. She's protective and strong and Genya values that.
More platonic relationships I like, ofc Genya and Kanao they definitely send letters often I agree. Also Genya and Aoi are quite close. And he treats the three little butterfly girls as his younger sisters. Especially Sumi because she shares the same name as his actual sister.
