Know the signs
I’m not sure what school will be like this year but hopefully we won’t be running wild in the woods while our infected classmates die of plague in cramped cots like the school in Jane Eyre
Jane refers to the colours of the china plate as "strangely faded", showing the way the trauma of the red room has literally removed the colour and joy of life as well as metaphorically.
Similarly, Lowood is quite a dark and colourless place, and on arriving to Thornfield one of the first things Jane comments on is the "gay blue chintz window curtains", and becomes convinced that her life will have "flowers and pleasures", showing the effect that her physical surroundings can have on her.
