Following the platitudinal lyrics and underwhelming sound design of Inner Song, Kelly Lee Owens takes a turn which is much more serene and textured – and far more engrossing. Even if it isn’t quite on the same level as Owens’ self-titled debut, Lp.8 is much more the kind of release I had expected to follow that work; much more distinctive, so obviously full of musicianship and teeming with compositional nuance and unpredictability.
