Every time I upload a photo taken with a phone on a portrait mode I get a lot of questions about the camera I use. So here it goes... it’s taken with iPhone 11 Pro. It looks really good at first but when you look closely you can see flaws. ::: The blurry effect that we all love, also know as bokeh, is done in a digital way, not optical. What that means is that an algorithm recognises an object on the photo, cuts it out and makes everything around blurry. You could achieve the same effect in photoshop doing it manually. Though, as you can imagine, whether it’s done by the camera’s algorithm or yourself it won’t be perfect. For example, some of your hair will not be cut out properly and will get blurred as well. ::: Where’s optical bokeh is different, it doesn’t cut out anything as such. It’s achieved through the way the light travels through the lens.
