A short sketch about brotherly kisses ✨️
I genuinely don't understand people who say "Itachi couldn't even get Sasuke back from the dark unlike how Naruto did." ARE WE CONSUMING THE SAME STORY?
It's so clear that Itachi is the main reason Sasuke went back to protecting the Leaf, and Sasuke himself explicitly states it. He is consistently saying he wouldn't let Itachi's sacrifice be in vain. Itachi's. Not Naruto's. If not for Itachi's love first paving the way, Naruto wouldn't have reached him in the end.
The moment reanimated!Itachi said those parting words, Sasuke was lost (saved, thrust back) to the light. It's why everyone was so shook when he joined the fight, proclaiming his dream of becoming Hokage. Because they knew it wasn't due to anything they'd said or done, and they would be correct. It was 100% ITACHI. Sasuke had never wanted that title before. Only now, after pursuing Itachi's dream of protecting the Leaf, does he covet that title.
Sasuke's entire life still revolves around Itachi, even after Itachi's death. His whole life he's idolized Itachi, even calling reanimated!Itachi "perfect" to his face.
After the massacre, that love turned to "hate" because that was the only way he could process the pain of someone whom he loved so dearly committing such atrocities. Sasuke is bad at dealing with feelings, so instead of saying he's 'hurt' or 'let down' or 'sad', he would prefer to focus on the rage. Originally after the massacre, he claimed to be seeking vengeance for his clan and parents, but at its core, it was all due to his hurt feelings over Itachi abandoning him for good this time, for cutting ties so violently and for seemingly no good reason at all. So that became his life purpose.
After finding out the truth, his obsession with Itachi never fades, it actually increases. He then became committed to destroying the Leaf in vengeance because he can once again accept the feelings of love that he'd always had for Itachi, and always would. Even then, Sasuke doesn't state that he's doing it out of love. He keeps reiterating his 'hatred.' Hilariously, Tobi has to state it (for the audience). Directly after going on a tirade about how hate compels him to destroy the village, Tobi clarifies, "When a man learns to feel love, he must also bear the risk of feeling hate."
They reconnect while taking down Kabuto, and Sasuske is flooded with old, tender memories. Despite telling Itachi that it doesn't matter what he says, he won't be able to stop him from avenging him, after Itachi tells him in the manga, "No matter what you decide to do from now on, I will love you forever," Sasuke... stops. BECAUSE HE LOVES HIM.
