Little Package of Horrors: Part I
I wish that the stories I am about to divulge to you were made up… and you know what, maybe they are. Maybe it’s some sick writer’s story, making me see the terrifying things I’ve seen… but to me, they were real as the hands typing this story, and I hope that by the time you finish reading these short stories about my job as a delivery driver, you won’t be sitting there like this chick be cray cray.
I’m not cray cray. I am very, very sane. But I am also very, very terrified and very very traumatized from the job that I had to do to get up on my feet.
You see, I grew up absolutely destitute. It’s terrible to think how my parents couldn’t give me all the things they wanted to. I wasn’t even supposed to exist. Not until mother found her success (which, by the way, means I would never have been born).
The company I worked for was a complete enigma. Even the van I drove didn’t have any sort of scrawling of what company it was from. The man that interviewed me was sketchy but I needed a job. I needed one bad. Like, bad. So I took the job, not knowing what I was getting myself into.
Would I do it again knowing everything that’s happened? … yes. Why? Because again I needed the money. But if I wasn’t in such a dire state to get out of my financial situation? There is no way in hell I’d ever be caught dead in that van again. Ever.
However, I did need it, so I was… by the way, I have no idea how the customers even found out about the company. They always seemed to be expecting me, never seemed surprised to see me… but again, I don’t understand how they even know the company existed. I didn’t know until I saw the most cryptic post online for a job. One of those ones that doesn’t state the company name, just a title of the work, the salary pay (2500 a month) and instructions on how to apply.
But they were the only legit company to even give me the light of day. They were the only ones to respond to my application, so I told myself if they were sketchy, I’d work just long enough to find another job or save up enough not to need to work for a little while and be able to quit while I looked for another work.
I’m not sure that “sketchy” is quite the term I’d use to describe that company and job, but… god, they were definitely something. Can’t quite put my word on what I’d call them, though.
I guess the best word I can think of would be… they were haunting.
I am going to start you off with one of the truly freaky stories so that you aren’t expecting all of these stories to be tamer than they are. Honestly, I’m a little phobic of dolls ever since this incident. You might wanna sit down for this one…
Are you sitting? Okay, now make sure there are no dolls in the room with you, because after you read this, you won’t care if that’s the doll you received when you were a small child or that your dead best friend gave your child when she turned two… you’ll destroy the doll with absolutely zero remorse. And all I’ll say is I warned you. You can’t sue me. Consider yourself warned.
This year, we carried out our ninth LPOH project and were in four locations: Lagos, Ibadan, Katsina Nigeria and The Gambia. We reached a total of 507 participants with 19 volunteers across all locations. Keep reading for the breakdown in each location.
For the Leaving Prints on Hearts (LPOH 9.0) Project in Katsina, TMO visited the Central Market on the 30th of August 2025. Special thanks to the people in the market for giving us an audience as we carried out the outreach.
