I just scrolled through @veylocke-murderbox's Holy Wound tag & my main takeaway is that I need to work on developing what I want to do with Cauterized Duo and Shatter Duo's friendships/relationships/whatevers (they're def not romantic, but calling them friendships feels... weird & reductive in a way that I cannot place my finger on?) for Lick the Salt from the Wounds.
'Cause I've got a pretty good beat on the gist of Bloodletting & Firelocke as well as Temperance Duo & Lumberjack Duo (...? I honestly have no idea what their platonic duo name is 'cause I only ever see Lumberjack or Pyrowen & both are only ever in a romantic/sexual dynamic, so if someone wants to tell me in the notes wtf to call them here, that'd be neat).
But I know Doc & Pyro's relationship is pretty critical to the canon divergence actually leading to getting them out of Oakhurst without death involved. & because they basically live together with Abolish for a solid chunk of decades after escaping, they do wind up pretty close. Honestly, I think Doc winds up to some degree being the father supportive uncle figure Pyro so desperately craves. To be clear, Pyro's not specifically craving a supportive uncle, but Legs said on stream once that Doc should never be allowed to be a parent. He could be a wise uncle or confidante or something, but do not let that man parent. (Then there was a bit about the crying baby reminding Doc of Private Doovid. That was a great stream.)
But Doc is more of an uncle to Pyro than a parent anyway, being an older adult who can see how hurt & scared Pyro is, & how damaged they are by being repeatedly told by everyone, before & during Oakhurst, that they are a worthless, irredeemable monster, & is there to offer support & care & remind them that they are not worthless nor irredeemable (or even in need of redemption) nor a monster, while also not taking the level of authority over Pyro one might expect a parent/parental figure to have.
Granted, he winds up being more like the sort of uncle who is close to Pyro in age & there's a bit of a "big age gap brothers" thing going on because they were turned within weeks of each other & then spend the rest of their fledglinghoods & much of their early vampire adult lives together. Something about going through what is basically vampire puberty (as well as decades of intensive psychotherapy) together evens the playing field a bit.
Shatter Duo is going to be more difficult because no one interacts with Owen for around a century post-Oakhurst, give or take a couple of decades, & once they reconnect, it's mostly Pyro interacting with him out of the other three in the tetrad. Abolish does talk with him & visit sometimes, though, so I'm going to have to do some serious thinking about events/story beats to add in to the timeline to flesh their relationship out a bit.
