So i also wanted to try making some tools for Hornet for the Lswg fick by @chubbs-the-fish so...
Kyoshi Fan
Metal Fan of the Kyoshi warriors ------------ Deflect attacks to increase the power of your attacks
Blue tool Each successful parry increases the damage of the next needle attack by (2,4,6,7,9), up to tree successful paries.
Creeping Mask
A crystal mask carved by Hornet form Jenamite (creeping crystal) --------------- Grows as a reaction to realising soul. Strike opponents to reinforce yourself. Blue tool After 10 successfull attacks against enemies realising soul, and not receiving any damage in the proces the Creeping Masks grows to its full size. While grown, the mask can block 1 mask of damage before shattering, and needing to be grown again.
I imagine that Hornet would be fully capable of creating new tools for herself if she wanted to, she just didn't have time in Pharloom because... the haunting. But on Zuko's ship after she finishes upgrading all the clothes, or on Appa if she ever joins the Gaang, she would have more than enough time. And like, she would see Creeping crystal and would instantly go "i can weaponise this"
Read your hk/atla fic and now i keep imagining Hornet playing the needolin during music night
YES I SEE IT TOO!!!
I feel that a lot of the skills you can get in Skong are just Hornet regaining abilities she had in Hollow Knight after being drained from the journey to Pharloom. That cage she was in sapped her strength and every time you get a Weaver movement upgrade the ancient Weavers are just lending Hornet their strength and revitalizing her after she lost just about everything.
But the needolin ability is a specific song taken directly from Widow. I feel like Hornet already knew she could pull her silk across her needle to make an instrument, it was just a skill she didn't need to use. The Ancestral Weaver song is what she learned from Widow. She's also really good at picking up tunes on the fly as she learns the threefold melody and the beastling song etc. after hearing them one time.
Which means conceivably, Hornet could join in on music night with her needolin after hearing the other's play the melody one time.
@chubbs-the-fish I saw the Lost Spirits, Wondering Gods fanart on my dash and it reminded me of the fact that I have a bunch of old fan art for your fic that I never posted because I was too shy, so here!
I have never watched Avatar, but I've read your fic front to back like seven times, genuinely. I also got part way through making a mod that would turn the dreamshield charm into the budding flower.
Anyway, I never post my art online, but I think in your shoes I'd want to see it. So here! ❤
So I drew something that popped into my head an hour ago.
Fanart for @chubbs-the-fish’s fanfic Lost Spirits, Wandering Gods. Featuring the Blue Spirit and Hornet as I imagine her to be perceived by humans, but with a costume on.
Tidal Dance: a Hollow Knight Charm based of @chubbs-the-fish Lswg fick
Given as a Mark of respect by the Ocean and Moon spirits to the Lord of Shades. ------------------------------
Transforms the Desolate Dive Spell into waves of the tide Cost 3 Notches Transforms soul into water that deals slightly lower dmg but has more dmg ticks. Additionally the reach of the shockwave is slightly increased. The dmg increases slightly on nights of the full moon. Charm Synergie: Shape of Unn - Transforms water generated by the spell into acid, increasing the dmg. Wayward Compass - reduces the soul cost of desolate dive to 24 from 33(18 with Spell Twister) I realy liked this fick for a while now and wanted to make something based on it.
So thanks to @theukon-dos and @conceptual-fic-sics I have been forced to think about Crests Hornet could come across and bind to herself. Not saying she will, but should she stumble across the right corpse to steal it from these are the Crests that she could find:
Crest of the Sea
Stream your needle with long range strikes, heal gradually over time.
Longest range for the needle, but slower animations means slower attacks.
Can line up multiple enemies to hit them all at once.
Needlestrike lashes out in both directions and rapidly hits twice.
Binding is quick and grants you one mask of health and a healing aura that will heal you up to full. Effect is canceled if you take damage.
Pogo moves on an arc.
Crest of the Badge Mole
Hammer enemies with heavy blows and absorb hits with earthen armor.
Basic attack is a slow overhead slam with the needle. Debris flies away from the attack providing additional damage to anything hit.
Needlestrike is a swing like a baseball bat.
Binding provides earthen armor which protects you for up to three hits of damage before shattering but does not heal you. You can bind again even if you already have earthen armor to get more.
Pogo drops you straight down really fast, so you better be right above what you want to hit.
Crest of the Dragon
Build energy as you take more damage, bind to release flaming fury on your foes.
Unlike fury of the fallen, damage increases proportionally according to how many masks you are missing.
Every attack has a small trail of flame behind it that has a percentage chance to cause burning damage, increasing with how low your health is.
Needlestrike is a directional, flaming up-spin.
Binding causes an explosion centered and radiating out from around the player, setting everything in its path on fire, doing more damage depending on how many masks are lost. Heals 1 mask per enemy killed by blast.
Pogo is at an angle similar to Hunters crest
Crest of the Sky Bison
Knock enemies away with powerful gusts of wind.
Small arcs of wind are sent out with every attack, dissipating close to the player.
Binding heals normally and causes each attack afterwards to produce a large crest of wind which will knock away smaller enemies and stagger larger ones for a short time. Bosses will enter their stagger animation faster and it lasts longer than normal.
Notably the wind itself does not cause damage, only the needle or enemies being knocked back into another object provides any damage.
Needlestrike is a single downward slash and a large wave of wind that travels across the screen.
Pogo is a relatively normal downward direction but falls slower than expected.
hornet describing muck roaches to zuko as he looses all color in his face
Hornet, suddenly disappearing for a bit before the Northern Water Tribe and shows up before the season one finale jaded, with a bunch of new tools, and with Lace after sailing the sea of sorrow.
She's still trying to wash muck roach stench out of everything.
Zuko is still so confused.
