The Trib had an article about Stella Binion today - the Walter Payton Prep senior who is one of 5 national student poets - and it mentioned that she will be performing a poem called “Black Girls Be Boxing” for Michelle Obama. I couldn’t resist the title, so I googled it and found this Louder Than a Bomb performance.

My team and I participated in a Chicago wide slam competition and this was our poem about the inequalities colored bodies faces in America, and how they aren’t given a voice. We got to semi finals, and performed this for the legendary ChuckD at the LTAB benefit party. Im really proud of how amazing these powerful women around me are. So tonight I went to LTAB for the second round of preliminaries and it was fantastic ahhh. If you guys have a Slam competition or exposition in your area, you should go. It's definitely worth it to hear the amazing poets and poems. Also @theboylovoi got his first ten so holy shit. I'm so proud. The group poem was the shit. Holy fuck. So much sexual tension, they really pulled it off. It's just really great guys.
