Chapter 1 Part 1
I sat on my knees and examined the scene before me. It wasn’t much to look at; a simple Greyhound bus on its side with broken windows and a few escaping sparks from its engine. The downed bus wasn’t my problem however; I couldn’t remember where I was or how I got there. I had no memory at all. All I knew was that it was winter and there had just been an accident. I wrapped my grey sweater closer to my body and looked around some more. I realized that I wasn’t alone…
I crawled over to what looked like a body, a girl’s body. I poked at her and flipped her to her back gently. Her face was covered by her hoodie. I didn’t dare take her hood off in case her face had been disfigured. I looked around some more; we were the only ones there.
I poked at her again, “Hello?”
She didn’t respond, in fact she felt frozen. I checked her pulse and found a faint thump. I crawled back to my spot and checked my pockets. My eyes widen as I felt the familiar flat surface of my cellphone. I looked at the battery and signal; one bar and 15 percent of the battery left. I quickly put in the number…
“911, what is your emergency?”
“Please… Send help…” my teeth chattered to the woman’s voice, “T…the bus crashed…”
“Where is the crash, honey? Are you outside?” I could hear her typing the report.
“I don’t know… P…please just hurry…”
I dropped the phone next to the girl’s hand and crawled to the bus. I looked inside to see if there was any food or anything to keep myself warm. I found another sweater and a wool blanket. I took them and sat down by the bus.
