@lucarus : ❝I know you’re only mean because people were mean to you but is this really what you want?❞
Lipstick line shoots out of her lower lip, uneven and smudging the side of her chin ( curse words are swallowed immediately, body tenses as if she’d been slapped across the face – Audrey does not like when things are out of place: a strand of hair, a wing of eyeliner, a person ). her manicured hand curls into a fist, the other lowers the lipstick tube and through her reflection in the mirror that now looks ruined by the imperfections of her makeup, she glances at the starlet with icy glare.
“ I don’t know what you’re talking about – I am not being mean to them, ” last words are spat out with emphasis, through gritted line of pearly teeth, and she takes a small paper towel to wipe off the smudge of coral from her skin – her frame remains tensed, her body clad in designer Valentino, an exclusive piece just for the night, is frozen in front of the mirror as if she’d spotted a terrifying sight – the small stain of lipstick is gone within a second, yet Audrey feels as if it’s still there, taunting her.
“ nobody was ‘mean’ to me – and even if they were, what’s it to you? you’re just here because hollywood loves a pretty american tragedy, ” all pretenses of charming politeness are thrown out the window whenever she feels her confidence threatened ( her grandmother would say there is nothing as excruciatingly painful as wearing a crown upon your head and trying to look everybody in the eye ). however, Audrey doesn’t feel like furthering the conversation – it would be going deeper into the why she’s so tense and anxious tonight, and why the mocking stain of dark coral remains imprinted upon her mind like a ghost, a reminder of failure that cannot be afforded, “ I just want this night to be perfect. and it means too much to ben for me to allow anyone to ruin it with their petty talk, either ways. ”
