Expand on the positive and negative traits given in the bio:
+ Fun Loving - From the time that Lucas was a small boy he loved to laugh. Even more he loved to make other people laugh. A good portion of his interactions with the people who came and went from his house were him making them laugh. He always had at least one book of jokes from the library stashed in his room not to mention he tried really hard to master the art of physical comedy. His jovial spirit was a large part of the core of Lucas. Lucas may not specialize in politics or blood purity but he knew that things were getting worse outside and even within the castle walls. He was determined that he wasn’t going to let that affect the person that he was. In fact, he couldn’t think of a time that a few more laughs could be more useful.
+ Companion - When he was a kid Gabby used to call him tag along. He followed her around like if he ever allowed himself to be dodged he might miss out on a great adventure. Lucas was rarely found on his own. In grammar school and at home he had loved entertaining large groups, but when he arrived at Hogwarts he learned just how his blood status might be a touchy issue for some, so he tried to stick with groups he knew he was safe in. However, whether it was just Weston or a group of fellow Puffs Lucas was rarely found on his own. If someone needed company in the library or a walk around the grounds he was their guy. He knew when it was time to be a little calmer and quiet and when he needed to pull out all the stops for a laugh.
+ Debonair - Lucas’s mum was a big fan of stage and film in part to her career so he was quite familiar with old muggle films and musicals. He had watched Gregory Peck win over Audrey Hepburn by giving up fame and glory for a chance at love in Roman Holiday, James Stewart throw aside the chance at a story of a lifetime for love in A Philadelphia Story and he loved it. It wasn’t that he was in the market for love. He found most girls immature and while they were good friends he hadn’t found one yet that made him want to throw it all away for a chance at love. However, he was a firm believer that the fact that both Gregory Peck and Jimmy Stewart were gentleman was a check plus in their column. He opened doors, he pulled out chairs, he stood up when his female classmates approached or left the table. He was certainly smooth with the fairer sex even if he wasn’t in it long term it seemed to be working well for him.
- Impressionable - Like his fondness for muggle films, books and people alike had a similar impact on him. His mind was open and made of clay ready to be formed and decided into exactly the person he would be. It would have been a point in his column most of the time, for being so flexible except that he rarely had an opinion he hadn’t adopted from someone else. This was something that had gotten worse since he’d arrived at Hogwarts and realized just how odd his family was. Sometimes he’d say things during his first and second year and people would look at him like he was crazy so he’d laugh it off and claim he’d just been joking. He’d learned to follow other people’s leads instead. He wanted to fit in and he was liable to follow anyone he thought could do that for him.
- Selfish - Lucas was a good friend, no one would argue that. He wanted his friends to be happy he was sensitive to their feelings, but Lucas also looked out for himself a lot. If there was one cauldron cake left, despite the fact that they were Weston’s favorites he would eat it. He had a knack for making sure that he got one of the first showers in the quidditch locker rooms. He liked to have his choice of things. Choice seating in class, free reign of the food at lunch. He had grown up in a house where if you didn’t eat fast the best was probably going to be gone. As bad as it might be, he had grown tired of that long before he had arrived at Hogwarts. He knew that times were hard on everyone, but he couldn’t see the plight of any pureblood he saw complaining. He thought they should try walking a mile in someone else’s shoes and get off their high horse.
- Childish - Gabby was embarrassing. Honestly? Why did she have to take their parents philosophies and then like up them to a million degrees and add cats? Honestly, if i hadn’t been bad enough when she was at school with him, but now there was a menagerie of cats. Who did that? Lucas spent a lot of time worrying about what other people might think about him, and the things he can’t change like his family. And he wasn’t above pouting or stomping his feet when something didn’t go his way. Those closest to him knew to ignore him and he’d knock it off but it turned a lot of people off to him. It also caused him to be irrational, he often did things without thinking of the repercussions. Streaking through the great hall for instance was one of those times that he got an idea and just went with it without actually contemplating any of the consequences he might face from it.
History:
From a young age Lucas was convinced of one simple fact, his parents were crazy. No, not just his parents his entire family was crazy. If there was one light of normalcy in his family it was him. Michael and Alicia Abbott were what most people would call hippies, they had a lot of free love ideas that they raised their children with. In fact, Lucas couldn’t remember a time when their home hadn’t been overflowing with people. Both of his parents were only children and yet Lucas had a host of people he thought of as aunts and uncles. People from both the wizarding and muggle world that spent their time drifting, travelling or wandering. If variety is the spice of life than Lucas thought for sure his life had to be the tastiest bowl of soup in existence. Not that you would ever find him complaining about his upbringing, because contrary to how embarrassing he might find his family at times he thought there was no better way to grow up.
Neither of his parents held traditional jobs. His mother was a seamstress working most often for different productions in both worlds and his father was a mechanic. Their positions certainly contributed to the colorful characters that made their way through the Abbot house. The actors and actresses were his favorite they had fantastic stories, he was never sure whether they were real or not, but they certainly had a knack for entertaining. When he was little he thought they had a huge extended family. Until he brought a friend from school over, and the friend was less than kind about Lucas’s living situation. The boy had called Lucas’s parents names as well as Lucas the visit had ended when Lucas punched the other boy, but it was the beginning of his reluctance to be a part of the environment.
When Lucas went away to Hogwarts he tried to leave his home life behind and as much as it pained him initially put a bit of separation between his sister and himself. He wanted to leave the vagrant lifestyle behind him and become his own problem. The only thing was he had never realized that the question of his magical purity would be called into question. Who cared if both of his parents were muggleborns? They were amazing wizards and he couldn’t understand why that mattered. When he was sorted into Hufflepuff he’d felt a bit without identity, but then he realized it really afforded the opportunity to be himself and leave any labels anyone had put on him before. The only problem was without what other people had told him who he was he wasn’t sure what that left.
Lucas felt a little lost when he first arrived at Hogwarts, he’d been looking forward to it like a kid on Christmas morning, but the reality was extremely daunting to him. Lucas had always poked fun at Gabby for her nonsense about meeting Abby and just knowing that she was meant to be her best friend, but the first night in the dorm when he’d accidently sat on Felix he’d felt the same way. Finding a friend was Lucas’s first step to growing up, okay, maybe growing up was the wrong phrasing where Lucas was involved. However, it certainly helped him be comfortable, in fact it made him relax a little. Maybe this whole thing of finding himself could be successful. At first he thought maybe he’d be a studious type, he never had been before but he’d always been impressed by the kids who were on top of things. However, that lasted about as long as it took him to get to History of Magic. Surviving a lecture with Professor Binns required drastic measures. Next he briefly considered getting up and running at dawn, turn himself into a serious athlete he might not be able to play his first year, but he could make himself seem appealing. But why in the name of Merlin did the sun rise so early? He was feeling a bit disheartened trying to figure out who he was when Felix pulled him into a prank. He may not have been a mastermind behind pranks, but he loved to laugh. Maybe he didn’t need to fit into any specific group. Maybe he could just take half a page out of Gabby’s book and just be himself.
Lucas stopped worrying so much about fitting into a box after that. Not that it didn’t take him a couple years to really embrace his new philosophy. But he could be friendly and do well in class and maybe someday he’d even play quidditch (though he certainly wasn’t signing up for sunrise runs.) Lucas wasn’t going to sign up to be a leader anytime soon, but he was going to start paving his own path, even if it just followed the path already trod by others. He’d find a way to put a spin on it himself. He joined frog choir, because it looked like fun, he started drawing a pseudo comic strip each week or two of something that had happened in school and posting them in the common room. He didn’t sign his name to them, but he liked to watch other people enjoy his art. Finally, he had somehow managed to turn falling and nearly making himself look like an idiot into a spot on the quidditch team. Lucas knew that one day too soon he would be graduating and having to face the world that lived outside the castle walls. For now he planned to simply enjoy the time he had and leave tomorrow’s worries and fears for tomorrow. (Or at the very least his nightmares.)
